Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fuel problem

New here. 99 dodge cummins 3500 2 wheel dually. Truck running good. Then just dies. Installed new lift pump ran great about a month. Dies again. Install lift pump again. Get it running. Drive about 2 miles dead. Install another lift pump. Nothing. Install yet another. Truck starts runs good about 30 seconds and then idles like crap. Have pressure gauge. Turn key. Up to 15 lb. start truck. Down to 0. Got it to idle but again like crap. Seems like lift pump cant keep up or i am doing something wrong. New filter. please help. At a loss.

Are you sucking air along your system someplace or your draw straw inside the tank broke
Do you have a in tank pump or external mounted pump if external try hooking hoses into a 5 gal bucket of fuel and see if that cures it

Just tried again. Same thing. Turn key. Fuel pressure. Start truck pressure to 0. Truck dies. Do the smae thing over and over.

Oem from part store. Tried autozone and oreilly. External pump.

Run a external hose to pump and another from pump into a 5 gal bucket of fuel if it keeps pumping the pump is good then you need to look at the supply side or the pump electrical side also check the pump relay

Already tried hard wire pump. Pumps up to pressure fine. Then when it starts down to 0. So i am thinking weak pump or drawing air somewhere?

If u r pump doesn't keep pumping you need a new pump spend some money for a good pump like a Airdog or a Fass pump

I just bought a airdog 100 off amazon for bout $276.00 it's a replacement for external mounted pump on 98.5-02 these are heavy duty gear pumps

Maybe I am missing something here, but are you going to install a fifth lift pump and expect different results? Did you try as Phantomusa suggested twice, rigging your pump up to a separate five gallon container? If you have a severe fuel flow restriction anywhere before the inlet of the lift pump, then the symptoms you are describing would be exactly how a good operating lift pump would respond.

What John and I'm trying to say is you need to eliminate any possible cause other then a lift pump...it's call troubleshooting steps
1 do u have a constant fuel supply
2 be sure the power supply is constant
Ect ect

With that many pump changes you either have the worst luck in the world or you have another problem. I would vote for another problem if you know for sure the pump has voltage during all of this.

I have hard wired the pump. Sobi have power all the time. I am going try letting it run into a 5 gallon.

I take it that hard wired means a positive and negative directly to the battery. Then, yes as suggested earlier I believe put a hose on the suction side and put it into a fuel jug and see what happens.
