Provided that oil temperature can varies wildly across it's journey from sump to engine and back depending on what surfaces it touches as a general statement oil never gets hot enough for any diesel fuel to evaporate. Also whenever things get hot, they are also under pressure which further increases the distillation remperature. Distillation temperature is simply too high.

Here's a chart
#ad

You see that there's almost 100F difference in distillation temperature between FAME and HVO. I find this relevant since I've only being filling up Propel HPR with very rare exceptions where I'm away from SD and I need to fill up.

Water evaporates. And so does diesel. Even at room temperature. But neither evaporates as fast as gasoline. Synthetic oil buys you some time before the diesel becomes part of the oil

"I wonder if that Donaldson DBL7349 oil filter contributed to the vast improvements.....even with higher miles???"

Looks really good. Does the Donaldson have a better rating on paper compared to the FleetGuard?

Looks like you may as well go the 15K next time.

Yes...the Donaldson has a much higher flow rate as well. Look at the flow rate differences.....I'm sold on'em after this OA.

Donaldson filters flow better and filter down to a better micron rating.

I have another analysis ready to drop in the mail......

For this analysis, I ended up using Chevron Delo 400 5W40 Synthetic, as two or three WalMarts near me were out of my regular 5W40 Rotella T6.

This sample has 15,227 miles #ad
on it.....but only 264 drive hours. Interestingly......the oil level did not change any at all during that interval. It required no makeup oil.

At 207,934 miles, 336 idle hours, and 3,845 drive hours.....I'd think so!!! :-laf

My 98 12V did not fully break in until 150K. Not so much oil consumption related but fuel economy kept getting better and evened out at 150K.

Anxious to see your results.

Mine at a touch over 30K on odo and a touch over 15K on the oil. Indicator allowed the full 15K.

I just got my results back today. Here's the report....

The 6.2 TBN was impressive....IMO.

My turn!!!

Here's the latest report on my 2012

The usual fuel dilution, but I continue to think it's within the "normal" range for per-SCR trucks. Nothing seem entirely.

As a side note, this oil change I switched filter from the Stratapore LF16035 to the Venturi Combo LF9028 (that's the one that has both inline and by-pass filtration built into the same cartridge). I'd be curious to see if anything changes next sample.

Here is my report with basically no fuel dilution on my 2011 HO RAM Dually. All three reports I did on that truck came back the same with 7,500 miles on our.

Ok. Looks like no fuel dilution at all. Was it deleted at all?

Also, I changed it because EVIC said so: so I get 5K miles according to EVIC. That was with some towing, but also a bit of run around town to get remodeling supplies as well as commuting to work and sitting in SoCal traffic idling...

Nonetheless, looking at wear metals it doesn't seem that my fuel dilution if really affecting it. And I would want to check next sampling with the Combo filter
