Was under my truck this afternoon and found that my frame was corroded. There is a crack on the right side of the frame right by the crossmember. The crack is about 6 inches long. Has anyone else had a problem like this? .

It's weird because there is no rust on the body and I have had no other problems with my truck. It's starting on the other side. Guess I have to take it to a welder.*

Wondering if that is a low spot. That's the "Hydro Formed??" boxed frame like mine has.

Moisture gets in and can't get out????

Hawaii is a terrible place for corrosion........I was in Oahu and my friend that lived there at the time had a Ford F150 that was dissolving.......brake lines first!

I got my 05 truck from PA in 2011 and I'm in New York City.
I had the same thing at the same location last year. I probed it open with a screw driver and a lot of dirt came out.
Dirt and water were collected over there.
It's corroded from inside.
I just applied POR15 on the opened hole.

I would grind out the crack leaving a radius at the end of the crack, weld and plate. If you ever saw a 3rd gen pushing it in the dirt you may be surprised at the amount of flex

Toyota had an issue with their frames my friend ended up gettint a new frame for free. In my dad's case they gave him what he paid for the truck on trade in for a new one to get it off the road. His chassie was just starting to show rot it sucked he never uses his truck wasa 2004 with less than 20k miles on it when they cashed it out. Box tube frames are great for weight savings and strength but can and do rot from the inside .

A garage I spent 3 years at I had to park down wind from the salt dome. I believe the truck suffered the most in that one period of time, and I was putting the least mileage on there. Salty air is a killer. Even my Blood Pressure was up.*

Same area has cracked/ rusted out on my 03' dually. We ground it down and welded metal plates to the sides and to the bottom of the cracked frame and POR 15 the entire truck frame. This particular truck has a 2.5 yard "V" salt spreader installed on durning the winter months. My other Ram trucks do not show any problems in that area. I always thought that the over filling of the salt spreader lead to the salt finding it's way down to the frame and doing it's damage. We also removed the bed and installed a Aluminum flat bed on the truck, makes cleaning up all the salt a lot easier after storms and gives you more clear access to the frame to wash it down.

Are you sure that crack goes through the whole cross section? Maybe it's just a rust spot and the paint has flared out making it appear the frame itself is cracked.
