Just installed a MX ARE cap with the full swing out door so the tail gate in now off my vehicle. The 2017 3500 Big Horn rear view tailgate backup camera has been changed this year to part number 68274731AE ($130) and the jumper harness is 68189124AC ($30). So I am considering scavenging those parts from the tail gate and mounting the camera on the back area of the rear bumper by the license plate by drilling a hole in the plastic part of the bumper. How will this affect the view from the rear view camera and will the guide lines be off. It will be mounted in approximately the same vertical plane but about 2.5-3 ft lower in the horizontal plane. Any thoughts or comments please.

I installed a replacement in my V-Box. Getting the camera angled down at the correct level was hard. My lines are elevated on the screen. My 2015 had two cables in the tail gate. There is a write up about it in my new Laramie thread. Snoking

Snorking - before posting I searched and read your camera thread. From your thread I got Tasca's web site addressed called them and they gave me the new part numbers on the 2017 OEM camera. And you mentioned that you had to point the camera down otherwise the lines appeared to float in mid air. Looking where I am thinking about installing the camera, I am starting to wonder if I will pick up too much glare at night from the lights that illuminate the license plate.

I think you will run into a whole host of problems.

I think you might be better off making or buying a camera pod and mount it on the door close to OEM location and angle. I use mine a lot to back into parking spots and I do not think that will work well with it down on a recessed area of the bumper.
