Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Geno's Gates water pump

My father in law has a 95 dodge, and the water pump is bad( bearing noise and weeping antifreeze out hole).We are looking at the Gates GATES-41181 for $41.95, but I see they have the Cummins pump 3286278 for $129.95. Big difference in prices. I figure most people will say Cummins pump. But why would Geno's sell the Gates pump, if it's not a good pump?

There are a lot of threads on water pumps. Seems like even the Cummins pumps are failing on the newer trucks. My oem lasted 280k on my '01, made in England, the Carquest lasted 13 months, I have a Napa now and expect it to fail early too. CARQUEST did give me a new one, I carry it for a spare, the Napa is also a lifetime unit.

It might be just me but I would not buy one online because of the fact that when it fails you don't have instant access for a replacement.

I seem to recall in one of the recent TDR or Geno's magazines they where taking about this and recommended saving the money and buying the Gates pump instead of the Cummins.

I'd go with the Gates. The W/P is easy to replace and generally gives you plenty of notice before it fails.

:--):-laf, No, my father in law live next door to me, and can't believe some of the low prices, we are paying for replacement part's, on line. I've got my truck tore down to the point of taking the case off, do KDP , put back and drive it.

Your right SAndreasen, I received a order from them and one hose was molded wrong, and after sending them a email yesterday. A new one was all ready in the mail today. Great place, and they seem to back their product. Thanks Geno's
