I'm still running the 7 psi carter pump on the frame rail that I installed in June of 2001 at 60,000 miles and I now have 240,000 miles on the truck. I had to replace the engine mounted 15 psi one at ~200,000 miles (it lasted 140,000). Prior to that I went through 4 engine mounted pumps in 60,000 miles. I've been very happy with the two Carter pumps in series.

YUP - I'd still be running that same setup, if it wasn't for all the hype about the "great Walbro" a couple of years or so back. I installed mine where the Carter 7 PSI pump used to be, but it and the remaining OEM Carter were still functioning perfectly, and I still have all my Carters stored away, just in case... :-laf

BUT, so far the Walbro has also proved to be just fine, and no problems or regrets on the install.

one thing I was thinking about doing was putting in an inline filter in the 3/8" fuel line before it hits my DDRP. Would this cut back on fuel pressure too much and is it even necessary? The only thing that is really prompting me to do this is that the 3/8 line is kind of stretched to the max to reach the new pump, at the time I didnt feel like getting out from underneath to cut a longer length of hose. It is not kinked or anything.

When I bought my Fass HPFP 95 pump it came with a 3/8 inline fuel filter that Fass wanted installed before the fuel pump. Mine was a NAPA 3270 but I don't know about the new DDRP. You might ask Geno's or Diesel Dan. The fuel filter does not seem to affect fuel pressure on my pump as I ran the pump without the filter first then installed the filter & I saw little to no difference in pressure. .

cool, I was thinking about getting a little filter from Napa. It apparently is not required for the DDRP, it has a 4 yr warranty, but I would like it if it stayed around for that long without any problems. I guess a 7 micron or so filter from Napa is ok? I might go and pick one up tomorrow and install it since I have off, just wanted to see what size/micron to run.

The NAPA 3270 is Line Fuel Strainer - 120 Mesh - can be used with gas or diesel. Airtex calls for a 70 micro mesh. Eric is working on sourcing the correct filter. He shipped me a 20 micro pre-filter. SNOKING

Got an email today from the current owner of Old Blue saying he was loosing fuel pressure. Advised to check pressure with a shop gauge and check on purging the isolator before replacing the Airtex pump. Jan 2009 to now is a fairly good life for a lift pump. SNOKING

My FASS DDRP installed almost 9 years ago is still working fine, not sure off the top of my head what the mileage was then, but at 286K now, I think I have changed the pre screen filter once in that time. I can pull it down to under 10 PSI on a pull, but unlike the OEM pumps it at least hasn't failed yet!

BTW, still running the VP44 that came on the truck 17 years ago, I attribute that largely to solving the fuel supply issues and adding a fuel pressure guage very early on. Took a while to get the LP issue solved, 1st it was a big hose kit, then relocate to the frame rail and finally the DDRP, I think I went through 3-4 OEM lift pumps' getting there, LOL.

Looks like I might be down to Airtex, FASS DDRP or Air Dog Raptor after a bit of reseach. Sure wish wifes understand all of this and the cost! Why is our truck needs all of these expense parts, is what she is asking! SNOKING
FASS End of discussion lol

Wow, blast from the past! It has been almost 10 years since I relocated the pump, added a big hose kit and replaced the OEM pump with a DDRP. I have had no more lift pump issues, 290K+ miles and still have original VP44.

The guy I bought my 98 12V from in 01 replaced it with a 01 2500. I kept telling him needed to replace his lift pump, seems he did a few years ago but replaced it with a stock unit. I kept telling him it was gonna kill his VP44. He laughed at me, well at 375k his VP44 finally died. He claims using AMZ/OIL fuel conditioner kept it living so long.

I put an Airtex pump on mine a year and a half ago and it’s runnin just under 20 psi religiously still, 35000-45000 miles so far. Only upgrade my pickup has is a Quadzilla XZT+ and it never asks the pump for more fuel than it can deliver.
