Hey all,

I know Ill get some criticism for this posting but that's ok. I recently got a 12v tune from my tuner to check out and I have some questions for anyone that is running this tune. I really only even considered it as my grandpa in law always has this smile on his face when he hears or sees an older 12v and loves it so I figured i would run it when he is around.

My questions are, How long do those of you with tuning run your tunes before you notice a difference? Is there a learning period for the motor to accept the changes or is it just flash the truck and all is well? I ask this because as far as I have known I get a new tune I load it, flash it and never look back. Now with this 12v tune I can hear the single injection change, but the exhaust tone still sounds like a deleted 6.7l which I thought the 12v tune was supposed to change that ( working with my tuner on this as well). Is something else supposed to be changed? How do your trucks run as a daily with this tune? Any adverse effects on the motor DD with this tuning?

I really hate to direct you to forum B, but it might be the best source of information for the 12 tune.

"12V, tune and flash" don't belong together in the same sentence.
Unless I'm completely misunderstanding due to not knowing abbreviations and proper verbiage associated with the newer computer controlled trucks........

The 12v tune is a special tune some people want for their computer controled trucks. The way I understand it, it removes several injection events on the newer trucks and makes the engine sound like a 12 valve.

It appears there are several tunners out there that offer it, H&S, EFI Live, RaceMe and even Smarty.

What NIsaacs said. It makes the modern 6.7 sound similar to the good ole 12 valve. Plenty of YouTube videos with said Tunes.

How is your Ram tuned? EFI Live? If you have efi live, some set-ups have a switch so they can go from stock/cr tune to 12v without reflashing. THAT would be cool!

12V tunes are easy to write, for the sound, but not easy to write to run good and not smoke. as you know the 12V smoke when turned up.
the only worry i'd have with the 12V tune would be cylinder pressures.

As for the exhaust sound, that can be changed in the VGT options on the tune. you want to have it close to wide open.
Then the pilot events change to zero, as well as the post, then advance the main to the area or 14-18,

So is it possible to write a tune that starts well when cold AND didn't smoke with the 05 type piston?
I wasn't sure if it's the piston type and/or the hpcr fuel system.

I have been told that it's not practical/possible

not knowing enough about UDC pro, it's hard to say. most single even tunes will be hazy. and the amount of time into one would likely not be worth it.
one could write one that idled like a 12V, then soon as 1100 rpm was reached would sound and run normal. if however you wanted one that always sounded like a 12V, it'll likely haze. if a VGT turbo was used, you could very well get close to a no haze tune.

To get a good cold start, one could maybe do a small pilot event while cranking, then turn it off at idle.
