Clueless... mechanical inquiry/help please!

What memory stick are you using with your Garmin and how much recording time do you get with it? I'm ordering a camera this weekend and I'm a little unsure as to the brand and size of memory stick to buy.

I've been thinking about buying a camera for some time now and had a close call yesterday (Almost t-boned a school bus when the bus driver blew through a stop sign) that would have been much easier to explain with video evidence.

I have been researching the Garmin 55 since reading this thread, and there appears to be very little info available on recording times and also about the Travelapse feature. I already have a Sandisk 64GB class 10 microSD card spare (which is the maximum size for that Garmin unit) which I will use (I have ordered a Garmin 55). I think it does come with an 8GB card but again, no idea of the recording time.

Thanks. I think I am going to buy the Garmin 45. Basically the same as the 55 except no voice command and 1080P instead of the 1440P. $50 less than the 55 and my local Best Buy has it in stock. I need to drive by there anyway today so I may as well buy it local. Will probably buy a 64GB card while I am there.

I absolutely hate electronics, but I think this will give me a little piece of mind.

I am running a 64GB card. With only a few pictures saved, and no Travellapse saved recordings, and no saved recordings, I can get around 14.0 to 14.5 hours of continuous recording before it starts overwriting it.....This is based on my resolution of 1080p 30 fps and HDR. This also does include audio enabled as well.

As to the info displayed at the bottom of the display, the gps and mph readings can be turned off. The voice command is great. I can say "Hey Garmin" then say "save video".....all without taking my eyes off the road or my hands off the wheel.

Excellent information. Thanks.

If someone read the transcripts from that video they'd think it was from my truck. I talk to more people in other vehicles in one day than I talk to in person in a week. I don't know how you do it. Day in, day out, dealing with folks who don't even know how close to disaster they've been.

Additionally, I have not even posted up any of the footage while I wait at various truck stops......It can get somewhat entertaining at those places as well.

Lots of two week wonders out there, as well as guys abandoning their trucks in the fuel islands......only to eventually see them shaving in the bathrooms.

Well I tried my 64GB card and it doesn't work, it just sits there trying to format it and no progress so I have been using the included 8GB card in the meantime which works fine. The voice command works well and is very handy. Overall I am quite impressed with the Garmin 55 (I am recording at max res), so I bought some spare mounts for my other vehicles.

Check the 'class' of the card. Your 64GB may be too slow. That is, the 64GB could be a class 4 while the Garmin wants a class 10.

Just bought this one, combo dash cam and GPS...
