Buying a 2012 or earlier will guarantee you get the problematic O2 sensor and increased EGR/increased fuel dilution.

Urea is highly soluble in water. So it would take a long time for enough water to evaporate out to cause a super saturated solution of DEF. However, solubility equilibrium models describe how crystals are always crystalizing and redissolving
When you get within 5% of max solubility.

Most have observed white DEF powder at the mouth of the filler opening. That white powder will coat the filler tube all the way down to the fluid level. That white powder will also cover all surfaces of the tank that are not in contact with the solution. Every time you add def or splash the def around when driving those crystals get washed back into the solution. The powder will typically redissolve. But there is a chance the powder can get sucked into the pump. Usually it will redissolve. Sometimes it will clog things up. If you use alot of DEF, you have nothing to worry about. Not everyone who lets their truck sit will need their injectors cleaned. Some will experience problems.

Thanks for the info Newsa. I know there was a considerable amount of freakout when they went to the ultra low sulfur diesel also. So all things will mellow out.

This is the one I used. It caused no problems.

I have decided to add one bottle every 2 1/2 to 3 years or about every 20,000- 25,000 miles.

This is just for information. I'm not telling anyone to do what I do.

It's your truck, do what you want or don't do what you don't want.

I won't, and IMO its not the solution. The solution is to build this system so it works for all driving conditions. Not everyone drives the same. I bought the truck for towing, have owned it just over three years, has 28K on it. If its towing somewhere then when we are in an RV park or whatever it gets driven nearly every day. When we get home it sits. Don't need it, don't want to drive it around town.

My truck won't go 6 months without having a DEF issue. IMO adding something to the DEF tank every 2.5-3 years would be futile for me.

Thanks for that research. Interesting that diluting 50% container DEF with 50% cooler water (not distilled/deionized water) only drops the concentration by 10%.... or about 1/3. Cooler water might have a slitghtly higher density than distilled or deionized water, but won't be hugely different. Also, the % urea listed by spec on the adblue/peak bottles is measured by mass (not concentration measured by volume).

And since pure urea is more dense than pure water, that's why it doesn't go below 20% concentration on the refractometer.

Anyone have a issue with def service see dealer and then def fluid overflows out of exhaust. I used a full tank in 10 miles

Are you able to read any codes?

Here is what Bob4x4 posted for someone getting a low DEF pressure code. (See below)

I guess it depends where the def fluid pressure sensor is located in the def line/assembly as to whether any of these listed problems might apply to you in the problem? You will see Wayne M's suggestion listed here. Might be several have experienced injector problems from trucks with fewer miles? Def isn't a fluid that likes to sit in your def tank for a long time. I think in summer months the water evaporates out of the tank faster than the def degrades. But that might only be true in lower humidity environments?

Possible Causes

DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID PUMP RECENTLY INSTALLED, BUT NOT FULLY PRIMED
LOW DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID LEVEL
CONTAMINATED DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID
DEF PRESSURE LINE DAMAGED/LEAKING
DEF INJECTOR PHYSICALLY STUCK OPEN
DEF INJECTOR RESTRICTION
DEF SUPPLY TUBE RESTRICTION
DEF SUPPLY PUMP ASSEMBLY

Just wondering something, do any of you have a edge insight or a code reader that can clear the codes as soon as you get the message? Does it go away and stay away until you fill up again or does it come right back and go away on its own? It sucks some are having problems but getting a cheap code reader that can clear the codes a couple times a year when it happens would at least keep you out of the dealership?
