OK, I've done a few searches using different wording and it doesn't look like the topic has been brought up before on fuel tank capacity and DEF tank capacity.
I know with the stock fuel tank the DEF tank is supposed to be 5 gallons. Right?

My `14 has the extra capacity fuel tank, I believe it's 5.5 gal more, putting it at around 38.5 gallon.
I usually fill my DEF tank around half gauge or a little less and always end up putting in more that 2.5 gallons.
This fill I let it go down to just above the quarter mark and filled up.
$12.30 and just over 5 gallons!

This brings me to my question, the build sheet shows the larger fuel tank but nothing anywhere shows a larger capacity DEF tank.

Anyone else wonder about this?

I've never heard of the extra tank capacity on a pickup. Is it a C&C or a pickup?

AFIK all long beds have the 32 gallon fuel tank and 5.5 gallon DEF tank.

You don't have a bigger fuel tank, that 5.5 gallons of diesel mentioned in the build sheet is a notation that they put 5.5 gallons of fuel in your new truck so it can be driven for delivery/load it on the truck, etc...........

This clears up my confusion on this.

I think I know how much fuel I put in my truck and I'm telling you that at +/- 1/4 tank, by the gauge I'm putting in more than 32 gallons.
I've had this truck two years now and you don't think I keep records of fill-ups both fuel and DEF? I wouldn't have even asked the question if I didn't have justifiable reason to.

a cut and paste from the 2014 ram 2500/3500/chassis cab diesel supplement manual

FLUID CAPACITIES
U.S. Metric
Fuel (Approximate)
2500/3500 Standard Cab Longbed Models 28 Gallons 106 Liters
2500/3500 Crew/Mega Cab Shortbed Models 31 Gallons 129 Liters
2500/3500 Crew Cab Longbed Models 32 Gallons 132 Liters
Standard Rear Tank – Chassis Cab Only 52 Gallons 197 Liters
Optional Midship Tank – Chassis Cab Only 22 Gallons 83 Liters
Diesel Exhaust Fluid Tank (Approximate) – 2500/3500 Models 5.5 Gallons 21 Liters
Diesel Exhaust Fluid Tank (Approximate) – Chassis Cab 9 Gallons 34 Liters

One of the things I miss about my it would hold 35 or 36 gallons

Since you have had the truck for two years, you did not purchase it new?????? Possibly someone before you put an aftermarket tank on board. I would like to have that extra capacity myself but not the expense of buying one. Remarks I have seen on the forum are that the gauge for the DEF is not very accurate. Not a float gauge but something like a refractory measuring system. At 1/4 you might be actually nearing empty, thus the 5 gallons or more fill. Since we don't fill the tank all that often I would not think a larger DEF tank would have put in as well but others on the forum would know better. With FCA who knows what might have been considered.

After your blood pressure comes down.......You could always call FCA:-laf and see if they have the answer you desire.......

Almost every truck has that, if not all. What it means is that you have a 32 gallon tank that came with 5.5 gallons of diesel in it, like every other long bed truck.

It's possible, since it doesn't appear you bought it new, that someone put an aftermarket tank in it. If its the OEM tank it is 32 gallons, as depicted on your window sticker.

Do a google search for Ram 5.5 gallons of additional fuel and you will see it's not an extra large tank option.

If the fuel tank issue is blowing your mind, try to find the "Front License Plate Bracket" which is also noted on every build sheet for a 2500...they don't exist. :)

Been trying to contact FCA but they're getting as bad as anyone else for service and support.. I REALLY hate to think the gauges are off that much.. I usually fill up every Friday and, depending on my work week drive and the weekend side trips fill up at either just below 3/4 tank or +/- half tank. From +/- 3/4 tank I fill approx 9.5 - 10 gallons. From around half tank it's 18+. That is WAY off in my book.. I normally fill the DEF when it gets to the half mark but like to run it down to the 1/4 make every 3 or 4 fills just to keep fresh DEF. From the half mark there have been times I've put in close to 4 gallons.. Yes I've seen the video on the screwy float system. Doesn't make sense but nothing about this truck has since I got it. I'll do some looking around, maybe snap a pic or two next time I'm under it changing fuel filters and see if y'all think it's stock or an addon. Didn't mean to snap but this has been bothering me for awhile.. Thanks to all for the explanation on the 5.5 on the build sheet.

Just noticed you said 2500. My 3500 actually does have a front plate bracket. Maybe you can heist one of them for your 2500. :)

Every rig with a computer controlled dash is this way. The top 1/2 is big to make you feel like you're getting great mileage and the bottom 1/2 is fast for some unknown reason.

I have access to edit the sender values with UDC Pro and even then it's not as linear as I'd like even thou I made the float linear...which it wasn't even close before. My gauge is quite a bit better than stock but 1/2 is not 1/2.

Dont know about your guel tank but if you want info on the def tank look on you tube for the motorcity mechanic he explains the def tank and alot of other dodge and ram items .
