I found this info useful. I guess install the winter front (grill cover), but open it up when travelling above 30°F?

I run mine even when it warms up. I have never had any issues. I wouldn't worry about it. If the cooling fan kicks on then you should probably take it off.

In southeast Mi this weekend temps are yo/yoing from 20's to mid high 40's I had to take a 55 mile road trip today one way for a meeting mostly x-way driving. I didn't want to take the factory cover off so I unsnapped the bottom from the bumper, rolled it up.

I used a couple of the loop and ball bungi cords to hold it in place

Worked well all the way there and back temps stayed lower (184/192˚F) than yesterday, with the flap in place (188/202˚F)doing short trips around town. With the water pump recall for my truck I didn't know how it might react with the extra load on it.

nukegm,

I often have the same issue. I agree with moparnut72, except that if it won’t get below 32 degrees all day I take it off.

His point about the cooling fan is spot on. I climb a short but steep hill on my way home and twice this winter the cooling fan has come on as I approach the top of the hill in 45 degree weather with the winter front installed.

I don’t think you’ll hurt anything if you leave it on in more moderate temperatures unless you work your engine hard. As long as you’re empty and not climbing hills you should be okay.

Best of luck,

I like your idea ! Cover is a pain to install & remove. Truck does warm up a lot faster with it on

Thanks
