Got appointment tomorrow, dealer got 3 pumps . First come first served. Question is the 79 recall got a fix yet ?
Spoke with mechanic that was doing the work he said this is the first Cummins water pump he has done . Also told him to do no flash updates as the truck has no problems. After the 79 recall was discussed here I don’t believe I’m at all concerned on having that fixed at all . I understand some areas require recalls for registration. Not the case here

A year ago I took my 2015 in for these flashes.

TSB 18-037-16 PCM

The Aisin gear hunting on small hills while towing was fixed by one of them. SnoKing

Is your waterpump good a or bad one?

I had my water pump replaced yesterday. Feel a whole lot better now. Don't be surprised though if you drive off and your low coolant light comes on. The cummins takes a while to burp. I had that happen right after I left and turned around and went back. They added more antifreeze and everything was fine after that. He told me that the last one they did it happened to the guy as well. They left it running awhile, but it burped the same way.

Yep I figured that would happen. Wife was going to take it in but guess I’ll take the day off.

From pics, it appears to be a water pump made by OMP.

Don't see any vent hole on this one,.

But it looks like the right pump, so you're good to go. ( It looks like the same one the dealers are using to replace the recalled one)

Weird that they will be replacing a pump without a vent hole with another that also doesn't have a vent hole?

But at least my 4 1/2 year old pump will be replaced with a brand new one before my summer vacay.

I'm 1800 miles from home right now and heading home soon pulling my 5th wheel. I have the pump that needs to be replaced.

I have a good dealer that I trust at home so I'm going to wait until I get there for the recall. I only have 35K on the truck and the pump appears good.

I check the temp of the pump with my Fluke IR gun on a regular basis and it never runs hotter than the rest of the engine so I think it will be OK. I am carrying a spare pump with a vent hole and antifreeze.

I carried a spare pump, 1 gallon of premixed 50/50 mopar coolant and a half gallon of 100% coolant as well as a gates serp belt in Dec./Jan when traveling for the holidays. Just in case. But it was extremely cold and I didn't have a winter front, so I wasn't worried. Just cautious...... because I also had my wife and dogs with me. It was a 3500 mile trip.

Do we even know if the vent hole has anything to do with the problem? Is it possibly a coincidental and it is just the easiest method of identifying the bad one?

Just got my truck back from the dealer with the replacement water pump. There is no hole at the 11 o'clock position. Is it possible to install the pump upside down? The part number is CS2HT511AA. Thanks.

We don't know much about the real cause. I suspect some have bad seals that let water into the bearings which then fail.
