Extended warranty when buying??

I have never bought an extended warranty on anything. But I'm looking at one from the dealer who assures me it's all factory and I bring it to the dealer etc for work.

This is on a 2018 5500. Thought please and what to look out for? Are these really thru FCA or 3rd party etc. Thanks in advance.

It's Odds and Math. Consumer Reports says Extended Warranties are a bad deal. The odds are greatly in the warranty seller's favor that you will never use it or if you do, the repair cost will not exceed what you paid for it.

I bought an extended warranty for a new 2005 Mustang my wife had to have. It was the first year of the new style, cost $2,700. Two things needed repairs in the 8 (3 Ford 5 Ext.) years covered under warranty. The lumbar pump went out and the EGR valve. No where near $2,700. It's a gamble but if it wasn't a money making program, they wouldn't offer them.

Remember that the extended warranty programs are highly negotiable at the time of vehicle purchase. Don't be afraid to offer significantly less than their asking price.

No kidding, they just called me and said 7 year 100k bumper to bumper maxcare wait for it......................$5300 that is not happening with me.

And thats with a $100 deductible

i declined to purchase the extended dealer warranty in january when i bought a 2500 tradesman. remember you can always buy a warranty - even the week before - the factory one expires.
5300 is INSANE high. cheers comrade!

Call them back and tell them that you will be willing to pay $800 for that warranty if you decide to purchase the truck from them. They will tell you at first that they can't discount it. Tell them thanks and that you will take your business elsewhere.

Then, don't answer your phone for a day or two and watch how cheap you will get it for.

I got it on mine, it has about paid for itself twice. I won’t own one of these without it, just too costly of a gamble. The touch screen alone will cost you the cost of it. Mine was $3,800 Canadian for bumper to bumper 5 years 160,000 Km’s. I’m at 140k now and I’m covered till Dec this year. Will be ordering the new one soon, just waiting for the true info on the new HD bodies date for sure.

You are not understanding. Give them an absolutely crazy low number first. Then they counter with something more reasonable. I played that game with my 1/2 ton. Ended up with the Max-Care 5 year for approx $1100 if I remember correctly. They wanted nearly $3000 on their first offer.

Played the same game with my Van. MB's extended warranties work slightly different in their time and mileage, but I got my 4 year 125K warranty thrown in with the deal for the van. Simply walked out the door until they met my price. No mess, no fuss. I had a deal on another van at a dealer in Maryland and they knew it. That extended warranty made the deal.

Don't be afraid to play the game guys. Extended warranty/service contracts are probably marked up more than any other "option" you can buy through the dealer.

Another thing with Maxcare is you get a loaner or rental car when in for service, flashes or recall. Used that twice already. SnoKing

Dealers often have contracts/agreements with rental companies. The Dodge dealer where I bought both my 96 and 05, along with all the other dealers on that stretch of highway, used the Enterprise office that was also on the same stretch of highway for covered loaners. The daily rate in the Chrysler service contract was irrelevant - I got everything from Kia Sephias and Toyota Corollas to Chevy Silverados and Suburbans - all covered in full by the service contract. Didn't even have to return the rental to the Enterprise office itself... parked the rental at the dealer's service parking and gave the key to the cashier - they took care of the rest.

Better yet, tell them you want to use their computer to access the following website on the internet so you can compare pricing: http://www.chryslerfactoryplans.com/.

They won't let you but instead will insist they do it. Have them pull up the exact same plan with the same deductible and watch their jaw drop. If they can't match it using DPACIFICA for the Promotion Code (there is a place on the third screen in to input the code), then walk and buy it from Zeigler. Many have purchased from them and Mr. Cline is A+. I've done this on both of my 2017 Ram 2500 CTD's I purchased in October/November 2017, and the dealer almost passed out. He refused to met their price so I purchased from Zeigler. A Genuine Factory Extended Warranty 8 year/125,000 $100 Deductible MaxCare on their site for a 2018 3500 is$2995 !!!

This Chrysler MaxCare all are referring to, is that the same as what the dealer sold me? --RAM ADVANTAGE MAXIMUM CARE? Paid $2,625 for 60mo/100,000 miles. Did not know I could get a longer policy. Plan to keep the vehicle in the family.

I got a Third party extended warranty and added a bunch from mopars extended care to it, 10 yrs unlimited mileage.... 2018 ram 4wd megacb, for like $2100

I can tell you when I purchased my 2014 we asked about the extended warranty and there is an aftermarket one and a MOPAR/Dodge Ram warranty...we negotiated it into the price of the vehicle (a whole other story), and an extended warranty on the wheels. (7 yr 100k miles)....
