Rear axle weight capacity is based on the load being at the center of the rear wheel/tire. When you add spacers and more tires outboard, you move the load point outboard a lot, putting much more leverage on the spindles and bearings. Thus, the new weight capacity will be substantially lower than it was with single wheels having the proper offset. Dually differentials are built for the load to be at the junction of the dual wheels. Converting a single rear wheel differential does not re-engineer the bearings, spindles, etc.

That's is good to know,:) thanks, a lot people must do it for the look. I'll just have to be happy with my SRW and the 19.5" 4900lb Ricksons . (just updated my sig too!)

I converted my 04.5 2500 into DRW using Dodge DRW OE parts. I located a DRW bed, rear axle and a set of wheels on Craigs. I Had to buy the front axle DRW axle adaptors from the dealership and a set of new tires. Total cost was about $4k and took a about 6 hours to swap.

I did a build thread in the 3rd Gen section for the swap here on TDR but apparently its been wiped off the earth.

I recall you have trouble selling that truck. And ended up switching it back to SRW to get it sold????

Check out the Arrowcraft conversion kit. With the Megacab dally bed it would make a unique truck.
That's what I thought,:) I would think with the same load ; my camper and trailer, apples to apples ,a 1 1/2" of offset on each side wouldn't be too much leverage on the bearings. Probably aiynt gonna do it though. (If I found a nice Streaker Blue Mega Cab Short Dually Box, it would be a start?)

It just made it easier, yes. I had several people that wanted it "as was" but were not able to secure the funds.
