how many of you have had any problems with the second generation emission ssystem on the 13 thru current Ram trucks
 
Aside from the recall.....which really wasn't a problem from the owner's perspective, therefore I gave a "No" vote.
 
The emission system on my 2014 truck was one of the few things that I didn't have trouble with........

"P249E is the code I got in the middle of nowhere in Nevada back in the spring(2017). Had to have the RAM dealer in Twin Falls just reset it as they were a week out from being able to work on it. Not sure the SCR recall is going to fix the P249E issue. Next time I will try to get a dealer to at least verify(open a case) it in their system before resetting it.

When travelling it is hard to stop for a week or two to have something fixed. We leave the end of September to the Balloon Fiesta in Alb, NM."

I post this a year ago. This issue has not raised it's head again.

Is there a special way to reset or just a normal OBD scanner reset?

Often getting a NOx sensor out of range message if I drive too many city miles.

And needed a stationary regen once at the dealer.

I did not try to reset it with my scan tool. We drove 114 miles to the dealer and then they reset it. I think however I could have reset it. I got a code for leaving a sensor unplugged while doing an oil change and was about to reset it.

Newsa, you don't really get a chance to drive out on the highway much, do you? If I was doing all city work I'd make it a point to jump on the expressway once a week and run it.
 
Not my truck but my younger sons 2013.5 truck. He bought the truck used from a dealer in IA which had imported the truck from Canada. After a year the DEF sensor was going bad, could not get the truck fixed under the emission warranty and could not get any recalls honored. So, it went under the knife now runs better and has improved fuel mileage.

I actually do practically every day on the way to and from work. But I think it needs a 5-6 hour drive. Driving out of state takes care of it.

How did I change my comnute? I changed a 6 mile one way commute to a 15-20 miles one way daily commute. But that doesn't seem to do it.

People will tell me I shouldn't have bought a diesel. But I didn't know about how finicky the emissions system is until I bought one.

One vote yes , one vote no. My 2014 had lots of trouble within half hour of driving of the dealer lot. Must have had over 16 trips to dealer in first year. No lemon law in Canada. Got tired and traded for 2016 no issues the odd mil light, but no codes usually clear themselves. 89 k on it now.

I think the programming in the 2013 & 2014 for emissions may not be as good as later models

that's the truth with just about any automotive device. the longer the OEMs build the same thing the more troublefree it gets as they work out the bugs
