Checked Ram uconnect update entered vin# downloaded 17.43.01 went to install and it goes up to 67% total and freezes. I bought a new 16 GB flash drive re downloaded software, same problem. Goes to the same point and freezes. Now the whole system is down. Had to disconnect batteries because white screen will not shut down. No one at Uconnect til Monday AM. any ideas?

How long did you wait at the freeze point? I did this update a few weeks ago, it took about an hour.......there were a couple of times where I thought the same thing but left it alone and eventually it progressed.

Sam

Did you leave your engine running the entire time?
Yes.....The instructions I had said to leave it running, don't open the doors, touch the brake etc. Also, the last couple of steps listed in the instructions I had were obsolete, it had some different on screen instructions that I followed to success.

Sam

Well, I guess I don't follow directions to well... I just had the ign. on with no start. I think it will time out if the engine is not running. I guess I'll go fire it up and try again. I will keep you posted. Thanks,
Scotty

25 minutes with engine at idle. 45 minutes with engine at idle. Everything worked perfect before I updated, Now it looks like I will be going to bend over for the dealer.

Did you stay inside the truck....and if so, did you have a pee jug???? I know folks YOUR AGE probably need one.

Additionally.....I bet CA (all three parts) would be realllllllllly upset with FCA if they knew that customers were being instructed to leave their vehicles running for upwards of an hour for a software update for the audio system. Just think of all the additional pollution you created, Sam.....

Ha:p....let them eat carbon and oxides of nitrogen......:DI also use an old lawnmower and a outdoor barbecue to kill off some of those o'zones they cherish out here. But I did in fact forget the bottle the other day when I updated the navigation map database.....It took twice as long as the Ucon update did and I neglected to use the latrine before I started.......came this close to having an accident....

I started my download at the beginning of a trip. As I recall it hung a few times but started up again. Whole thing took well over 3 hours. Wiped out all my saved trips in the GPS but did add some nice features like where to turn displayed right in front of you in the EVIC. Also adds a lot of info to the Sirius radio display if that matters to you. It did wipe out a lot of settings and I had to pair the cellphones again too.

Has the red light on your rear view mirror been blinking and have you seen any error messages that said Vehicle Phone Service Problem if so the Sierra Wireless module in the radio has failed. I just went thought this. Mine started not wanting to come on, the red light on the rear view mirror would flash and we got the Vehicle Phone Service Problem error. I tried to update the radio and it died at the same place and the unit is bricked. Tool the truck to the dealer and they ran diagnostics on the radio and it fails. I am waiting on my $795 replacement to arrive. If you fix your let me know how.

I guess I missed the part of the instructions about having the truck running and not opening or closing the doors. I had the ign, on and went in and out several times during the update with no problems. Took close to an hour to complete. Several times it looked locked up, but after a few minutes it would continue to install.

Hitec.Redneck, Yes, I was getting the vehicle phone needs service and red light on mirror message. Now the system is locked up. Dash lights and white screen wont go out I have disconnected the batteries.

Talked to Uconnect tech support this morning. We tried to soft boot but when it is locked up it won't work. They asked what size thumb drive I was using and suggested to get a drive with more storage and re download. Me being a skeptic, I got a 32GB drive and downloaded file re installed it in truck. To my surprise it completely downloaded and everything works as it should. Crisis averted..... yeaaaaah The uconnect update website says to use at least a 4GB drive. I used a 16GB and that didn't have the capacity to completely store the file for download. Thanks to all for your help and advice,

Scotty

Well....that's a good way to start your week....good for you. I remember the 4 gig size mentioned and I used a 32 gig because that's all I had......

Sam

So glad I took a chance on that 32GB after I made a appointment at the dealer all I saw was $$$$$. Maybe this can be helpful info for the next person who does this. You can't put a price on GBs of memory!!!

I am glad you got yours working, mine is bricked. I have tried multiple USB drives, all 32gb without any luck. From all the research I did when the red light flashes on the rear view mirror the Sierra Wireless module is malfunctioning/dieing. Ours went from red flashing LED, to navigation showing we were in San Antonio and driving off the roads to dead.

I have the exact same problem with mine. Sometimes the nav will work perfect and other times it will be off in a field somewhere in outer Mongolia. The compass will be read wrong the red light on the mirror, the clock will lock up. Oh yes and the dreaded" Vehicle Phone Requires Service" Contact dealer warning. My daughter had the same problem with her Durango The dealer replaced the complete unit under warranty and it was happy ever after. My rig is out of Bumper/bumper to replace it would be costly. When I need navigation I use my phone it is more reliable.

Uconnect tech support stated they have had major problems with Sandisk brand of memory, I made sure to buy Kingston. For what it's worth.

Of course...this is where is gets goofy.....

I just checked by thumb drive I used and it says there is 29 gigs of free space on it.........and it is a Sandisk thumb drive....
