5.9L regular vs. High output - How do you tell?

Clark, As you see the starter, I don't know why it doesn't go back. It might fit. I looked at Larry B's web site and he wanted $616.00 He also doesn't carry parts for the 2007 and later starter. I personally like the earlier starters but this is what my truck uses. I think that they use a planetary reduction. My original cranks like it is on 24 volts with the Odyssey batteries. Cheapie rebuilds on ebay are $200. I just turned 100,000 miles so I figured having a spare starter wouldn't hurt at that price. Ebay last week was running a site wide 15% off so I only paid 127.46 plus $11.00 shipping. They have 15% off today that expires at 11:00pm Pacific time.

Just talkedd to Larry at LarryB's about this--

Cummins changed the design of the nose cone and some other things on the 2007 up starters...these starters will NOT interchange/fit with pre 2007 trucks, but DO fit 2007 to 2015 trucks.

That being said, in his opinion, the earlier 3rd gen starters are a more robust and rebuildable design.

And THAT being said, the deal that Chris found in his first post is practically a giveaway!! LarryB sells the same OEM Denso starter for $500!!

Just checked my '06, starter is a different number. AND only fits an 2006 from what I can find so you guys with an '06 be careful if you need a replacement starter in the future....

Safest way is to run your VIN.....

Before packing the starter away today, I took the back off to have a look inside. It is Denso quality all the way through and built stout. I found out by having the back off and turning the armature that it is a gear reduction starter and more than likely a planetary reduction. I found out that the starter motor is a 3KW or 4.02 Horse power. Maybe Cummins was thinking that they were going to need a stronger starter motor for the 6.7??? My luck is that I will never need it but if I hadn't bought it, I would.
