Dealer Def $4.99 per 2.5 gallons.

I have a friend who is has been a Ford parts manger for a number of Ford dealers over the years. When I asked him how much his parts department chargers for their DEF he stated he buys 2.5 gallons for $2.99 wholesale and sells it for $4.99. My dealer sells it for about $20-$25 per 2.5 gallons. Maybe Ram needs to rethink their DEF pricing.

Mopar PN 68035704AC dealer net is $6.70, list is $11.20. I highly doubt the Ford dealer is getting it for 1/2 price of that unless he is buying it in 55 gallon drums.

Edit. I found the PN for 55's, 68035700AC and if you buy 2 (110 gallons) dealer net is $4.65 per gallon.

Looking at your numbers, it appears his pricing was per gallon not per 2.5 gallons. Still Ford's retail is considerably less than my dealers retail. I purchased the extended warrantee. I keep meticulous records about only using Ram parts/fluids to alleviate any question about honoring warrantee should a problem appear. I just wish Ram was a little more considerate of it customers. Oil, filter carden joint greasing goes for $150, so I do it myself but with Ram parts.

I've never found any that have been priced well. But, on the other hand, I hate buying more than I actually need and end up throwing it away.

Why would you throw it away? Suppose to have 1-2 year shelf life? I buy the 2.5, fill my tank, put the rest in the garage until I can use the rest.

Considering that I use a gallon approximately every 5000-6000 miles, I fill about once a year. I used to keep the last splash or two that didn't get used in the bottom of the 2.5 gal container. But by the time that I think about adding it again, it has sat on the shelf after being open for a year. It's not worth using that little bit at that point. If I would be prudent and add it when I get a little head space in the DEF tank after a month or so, then I could see using it. But I always forget and I always just end up throwing it away.

When I need to top off my DEF I go to Love's Truck Stop. DEF at the pump, $2.79(?) a gallon. You have to pump V E R Y slowly but it's worth it. Their 2.5 gallon jugs are $15 and up. Why???
With their high turn over their DEF is appears to always be fresh so I figure can't beat that price.

I would think it at least preserves the warranty?
