Just picked up my “new” 2018 2500 Cummins. It was a trade in with 9k miles. I got in for 20k under sticker! Traded my 2014 1500 ecodiesel. Had a 2007.5 2500 6.7l Cummins prior and missed it so much, I wanted my Cummins back. My question is: I clogged the particulate filter on my 07.5 Cummins several times, I got Ultragauge EM. Even moved it to my ecodiesel. I could watch the EGT temps and knew when she went into regen. When I got my 18, I plugged the Ultragauge in and it can see a bunch of info, but no EGT temps. I have been doing a little research (very little), but no one seems concerned about the EGT temps and regen anymore. Did Dodge and Cummins finally “fix” this issue enough that I don’t need to be overly concerned about blocked filters anymore? Everyone seems to be saying just drive ‘em and not worry... Advice?
 
I'm not familiar with the Ultra Gauge, but have a Scan Gauge II and can monitor 5 EGT points on my 14.
 
I like knowing, but many of the short comings of the 2007.5-12 are fixed in the 2013+ . I would have tried to wait out the 3.0 DOJ/EPA final decision before trading.
 
Edge Insight CTSII will tell you when your in regen and it can also, with the right accessories, read a EGT sensor. It won’t void your warranty either, but avoid the same Edge CTSII with attitude, the attitude will void your warranty.
 
I got a Kiwi3 bluetooth OBD2 adapter and watch EGT and DPF status with the Torque App on my Android phone.

I like it, it's cheap, and I'm getting over 800 miles between regens. I've pretty much quit watching it.

You could go cheaper with a Chinese OBD2 adapter but I've been happy with the PLX at about $70.

GBBrown, if you continue to shutdown truck during Active Regens, you will get the Warning to drive vehicle until completed, if it reaches 100% you will need to see someone with WITECH to place the Vehicle in Stationary De-Soot, $$$ if you continue to ignore the warning the truck will drop into de-rated power.

Thanks..didnt know that. My trips are generally longer, and usually pulling a trailer of some sort, so I dont think I need to worry about it.

So you plug the OBD2 adapter into the OBD2 connector then it uses bluetooth to pass the info to your phone via the Torque App? No additional EGT probes, etc? Pretty darn slick...

That's more or less the way they all work, my Scan Gauge monitors more PIDs than I can recall, 5 egt points, dpf percentage, def level to name a few. There are over a dozen emission related PIDs you can monitor all through the OBD connector.
 
That's exactly how it works. Newer vehicles have more and more sensing built-in to meet emission and expected power levels. It's all there, being monitored by the factory computer, and an OBD2 adapter can read them. It's not always that simple, like the DPF status, but generally, you can find a way on the web to get what you want. The more you try to read at once, the less speed/resolution you can get, but I'm not watching much on this new, under-warranty truck. I had a laptop hooked up to my last truck, since I supercharged a motor GM never did... man do I miss having 500+ hp in a half ton, well at least empty. Towing and hauling this 2500 Ram is so much more truck...
 
Ok. Lots of suggestions here. Thanks. I really appreciate the advise however, most of you are driving 2016 or older trucks. Mine is a 2018. I read that Ram/Cummins is blocking most of the info you normally can see via the OBD2 adapters on newer 6.7 and you need an unlock cable. RVTRKN has one suggestion that would work. Is anyone else using a monitor with or without the unlock cable that you would recommend? I am trying to avoid what CTDiesel is describing.

The 2018 has SGM (Secure gateway module) the info VIA OBD/Data is open to readings, its changes that the SGM protects.

Not sure what you mean... An OBD2 adapter w/ Bluetooth would work? Hoping so...o_O I don’t like the Edge Insight CTS2 as it unlocks the ECM. I’m afraid that might void my warranty.

OK. I purchased an OBD2 adapter with Bluetooth. Got an app for my phone. Plugged the ODB2 adapter in, opened the app, and BOOM. (Insert failure sound here) Just as I thought. Only basic gauges. The things I want to monitor (EGT and regen cycle) are BLOCKED (unreachable/unreadable and red, not green in the app) The only way to get that info would be to unlock or bypass the ECM.

So, let me restate the question: on a 2018 Ram with the CTD, a lot of the data is blocked from the ECM to the OBD2 connection. If I spend another $400 to $500 purchasing a MONITOR that needs to unlock my ECM, am I going to void the warranty?
