On my '09 4500, I had my dealer drain, flush, replace filter, and factory fill at 60K mile for around $200. My dealer is a real 5 Star dealership, Bluebonnet Dodge in New Braunfels TX. I'll have my new 5500 serviced there too when I reach 60K miles also. They also inspected it and reported negligible wear as I was running 90 HP/180 Lb Ft Tq Smarty on it. Good to have great relationship with your service techs. Cheers, Ron

OK the confusion seems to be in the wording. The 2015 diesel supplement says this at 60K, 120K etc:

Change automatic transmission
fluid and filter(s) if using your vehicle
for any of the following: police,
fleet, or frequent trailer towing
(68RFE transmission only).

At 120K:

Change automatic transmission
fluid and filter(s).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The later manual (looked at a 2017) clarified this at 60K, 120K etc:

Change the automatic transmission fluid and sump filter (AS69RC transmission only).

And at 120K:
Change automatic transmission
fluid and filter(s).

Then another line says for 60K, 120K etc:

Change automatic transmission fluid and filter(s) if using your vehicle for any of the following: police, fleet, or frequent trailer towing (68RFE transmission only).

So the Aisin filter and fluild should be changed at 60K, 120K etc, and fluid only at 30K, 90K, 150K etc.

I concur, BUT where does it say to replace the fluid from the pan ONLY???

Hey SnoKing,

thanks for clarifying. I verified in my 2017 Ram Service Manual and you're right on fluid changes at 30K miles. I was concerned I had missed the 30K mile interval on my former '09 4500, so just looked it up. First transmission service back then for C&Cs was 60K miles, so Ram now has revised there fluid change intervals for the AS69RC. Being a type A, I may just do the full meal deal at 30K intervals now... Never believed in doing wet fluid changes, only dry ones. Good to know.

BTW, I'll do the full service, including flush, so no old fluid in there.

Ever hear of production tolerance? I’ve got to undo my trans mount and jack the transmission up to get at the rear pan bolts on my truck. That’s with 1/4 drive swivel sockets.

My 2013 is the same way, I've left enough blood on that CM, Yes I have lifts even at My home so it takes me 5 minutes to get the CM bolts loose and a few turns on the screw Jack.

This wrench fits on By barely fits.

Not sure who this is directed at, since you never quoted it.
Yes directed to you.

Ok then.
On both of my 3500s.....I always removed the covers and drained the properly warmed up fluid. Would kinda be stupid to suck out the fluid from the fill hole since the AAMs have had reusable gaskets since 2003.
Additionally....my 2018 RAM 4500 with 310 RBI only has a drain plug and fill plug. There is no cover on the rear axle. The front 275 FBI does have a cover.

Additionally.....you never answered this....
So......didn’t you do a PARTIAL FLUID CHANGE at the 30k service ? (Drain & Fill)

Yours DOES state filter at 60k AISIN, my book is newer. What to believe??? Yours simply states change transmission fluid, where do you come up with pan ONLY??? Yours plainly as mine says "change transmission fluid" where does it say just the pan???
Not sure why you have to be so friggggggin argumentative. The transmission pan has a drain plug on it. Jezzzzus H. Kriste....

Quote from another Forum by Mr gsbrockman 8/2/14 talking about AISIN service.

"I'd have no problems with performing a flush on it. Most reputable shops with a flushing machine should have all of the necessary fittings. The method you mentioned would work.....just don't pumpit dry."

HMMMMMM, this is from the guy that has given me nothing but crap (I know he is having fun) about my resistance to a partial change.
Gotta love the spin you try to place on things.

All I can say is two things.....the AS69RC in my 2014 3500 went 362k miles on these lowly partial fluid changes.

TransEngineer plainly directed a comment TO YOU once before cautiously urging you to not run it dry, using your bucket method.

Still where is the proof of pan drain only???
Wellllllll.....you tell ME where the proof is stating anything other than the drain & fill every 30k miles??? Again....the transmission pan has a drain plug.

I know you are an “Old Dog” but lowering the crossmember is NOT needed. Simply buy a 1/4” drive 10mm Universal joint. I raised my trans (very simple) and used the socket to RnR the pan with zero difficulty.
As already mentioned, unless you are too arrogant to acknowledge it, there obviously were some production tolerances between my early production (09/2013) 2014 model and your 2015. I tried loosening the transmission mount bolts and jacking. No dice. On my truck it was loosen the crossmember.....period.
Guess what.....the rear pan bolts on my 2018 4500 are a direct shot. I will not even need a universal.

Are you 100% sure the work was being done properly?

$126.95 filter
https://www.genosgarage.com/product/mop-68019688/transmission-filters

ASRC fluid, around 10 to 13 quarts, lists for about $14/quart
https://www.moparpartsoverstock.com/p/__/FLUID-Automatic-Transmission-Quart/6888666/05189966AB.html

And we have not touched ANY labor yet....

The correct factory maintenance interval for the Aisin is fluid changes every 30K miles, filter changes every 60K. And by "fluid change" they do mean a pan drop (or, I should say, drain and refill), not a full "flush".

That’s great to know and have confirmation. Lots, including myself, already knew the drain plug on the AS69RC was there specifically for the 30k services.

Getting Cummins12V98 to succumb to what most of us already knew.....and admit defeat that he was incorrect, will be an act of futility.

So how much more fluid comes out in a pan drop vs just removing the drain plug? Half or a full quart? More? How?

I believe what you are saying but why don't they say so????? Words have meaning. Most of this banter is simply having some fun.

I looked things over and concluded there is no way to do a fluid exchange like I did on my 68rfe. The valve you mention is right at the side of the trans. SOOOO I would like to know if there is a proper location to tap the converter???

I bit my tongue and replaced the nearly 10 quarts that drained out overnight with the filter removed.

Other than Greg simply remove the three bolts at the bottom of the cross member place a jack under the transfer case and raise til it stops. Then use this 1/4" x 10mm wobbly to RnR the 4 bolts. I advise warning the gasket as mine had shrunk lengthwise and tape bolts in place to keep gasket in place or do as Greg mentioned and use adhesive to attach gasket to pan.

Using the socket shown made the job a couple minutes VS the 1/2 hour and lots of swearing my Son did when changing his pan gasket.

Look at the way the AS69RC transmission pan is shaped. The shallow part is where the drain plug is. The deeper part will hold maybe an additional quart at best. The taper in the pan does not drain the entire pan. IIRC.....the deep end of the pan is where the sump filter pickup is.

There is quite a bit that comes out when you remove the filter also.
Snoking never mentioned anything about removing the filter.

He just asked about dropping the pan.

I could always get 10.5 to 11.0 quarts of the 13.74 fill capacity on a lonnnnggggggg drain on my 2014 whilst servicing the sump filter, as long as the fluid was at 163*F or a few degrees above.

I looked up the old receipt...it was actually $268 + tax. drain, flush, filter, fill. I was quoted over $400 at a shop where we normally get our transmission work done. It always pays to check the dealer. And my dealer does great work. This was almost two years ago and was a special.

Too funny! You should know a pan drop includes removing the filter!

Not funny at all.

Show me within his post where he mentions changing the filter.

You are ASSUMING he wants to replace the sump filter.

Perhaps he was curious as to the difference in fluid amount drained with the drain plug vs. dropping the pan WITHOUT replacing the sump filter, since the pan gasket on the AS69RC can be reused a few times.

So I am not allowed to add a bit more info???
