Hey I just did a fluid and filter change on my 2014 ram 3550 aisin trans added 7 qts of fluid started vehicle up noticed I had a check engine light on let vehicle warm up checking fluid level the whole time added a eighth quart fluid level looks like it’s a qt low on the stick but I still have a engine light and vehicle won’t shift out of 1st gear and shifting from p to r or d I get a harsh clunk in the drive line any help would be great thanks

It’s happened to me with a filter change. Make sure the trans is full. Turn off the truck. Restart the truck after a minute or two. You’ll still have the MIL but the truck will shift normally. After a dozen or so key cycles the MIL will go out.

No worries very common.
I can't remember the exact code #, it happens when you add to much fluid and start, its best to add 5 then add until just above the full line 7.5QT in most cases.

You will need to clear the code and it should return to normal. 8QTs may be above the full line, it should be OK , I run about 1/4 inch above the full line at 120* AT fluid.

If the code continues to appear check the filter.

I wouldn't worry about it if the problem doesn't recur. Sounds like others have had similar issues after a fluid and filter change. I'm guessing maybe you got some kind of low line pressure fault while the pump was priming.

Just a suggestion. When changing fluid measure the quantity of fluid you removed. Add that same amount THEN start the truck. You should be right on the proper level if you were before the drain.

You’re probably experiencing a P0868...Transmission Fluid Pressure Low.

I’ve experienced a P0868 EVERYTIME I’ve dropped the pan for a sump filter replacement on my AS69RC equipped trucks.

You can either clear it....or it will go away on its own after a few key cycles, as already mentioned.

I’m dropping the pan right now on my 2018 4500. I have my el-cheapo code clearer on stand-by to clear it.

Additionally......you’ll be closer to 10.0 to 10.5 quarts of fluid replacement, depending on the time you allowed it to drain AFTER you dropped the sump filter.
