I will notice two phenomena's when in regen, per the EGT. 1st is the standard temps will rise 200+ degrees (its hard to know when towing heavy) above @ 650*. 2nd is the Exhaust Brake will engage causing the EGT to rise when sitting at a idle. Now if I let it idle for 5 minutes, the EGT will drop below 500*, other wise it will rise when coming to a stop light. I'll see 650* when crusing at high RPM's @ 35MPH (I have the G56 manual trans), when I come to a stop my EB will engage and the EGT will rise as high as 850*.

How do you know when you are in regen with just EGT monitor such as my new smarty and which EGT is best to monitor, are there not multiple spots, thanks

Monitor your dpf outlet temps it will read much higher egt than right after the turbo during regen. On my Scangauge it is coded as "EGT3", your Smarty will be able to monitor this as well.

Is this the “Torque Pro” app that everyone is referring to? It is $9.99

Thanks,

Mark

It will regenerate fine in the city. I have a Edge CTS monitor that tells me the exhaust temps and when I'm in a regen but you can do the same thing if you have an android phone. I have 3 videos on setting that up if you have insomnia. There's really no way to tell if the truck is in regen without a guage but you don't really need it either. The truck will take care of the regens without being on the highway. Mine does it in town all the time. If you shut the truck off while it's in a regen, it'll go right back to regen when you start it up, even if the engine is cold, so I wouldn't worry that. I set up a cheap way to monitor exhaust gas temps which will tell you if you are in regen or not. See video's.
