I have a 2001 dodge ram cummins diesel, quad cab 4WD with the 4.10 ratio diff's.

I just had a B&W gooseneck ball hitch installed, and am now looking through the book and figuring out all these ratings.

My GVWR on the door sticker is 8800 LB
My GCWR in the owners manual shows 18000 LB
But I am looking for the Max Tow Rating __________?

Anybody have these specs or know where to locate them? The trailerlife.com site didnt show a gooseneck rating for my year model.

Thanks..

GCWR means Truck, trailer and cargo weight combined. if you scaled your rig with a load on it, that is the total weight the manufacturer declares to the government. I have been weighed and they looked first at the truck sticker and then they added up the capacity of each tire on truck and trailer. Although I was over GCWR by a little, I was under the max. capacity of the tires on trailer and truck and was allowed to proceed.

The manufacturer doesn't declare a GCWR to the government, at least not the U.S. government. There are too many variables in every model year and too many options. For example The GCWR of a '97 4X4 is 16,000 but my 2WD is 20,000. Club cabs and standard cabs are different as well as single rear wheel and duels. A really stupid system. And even though my GCWR is 20,000 the tow rating is 10,000 and the truck only weighed 7,000 off the lot.

The bottom line is if you choose to stay within some arbitrary limit then weigh your truck and subtract that weight from 18,000. Unless you live in British Columbia there isn't anyone who can tell if a 18 year old pickup is over the manufacturer's GCWR. If you are concerned about legality and the insurance side of it go down and talk to the weigh master at a DOT station and your insurance guy. You will find there are a lot of myths floating around the internet, on this forum and every other one.

In BC they don't care about the GCWR. They do care about the decal on the door frame. I can't exceed the GVWR, GAWR, or any tire weight rating. If I'm hauling a commercial trailer then the tow vehicle needs to be licensed for the total weight of truck, trailer and payload. If I'm hauling a recreational trailer then I need to be licensed for the weight of my truck.

I may have received some bad info. I was told by a guy who claims to be in BC weight enforcement that Canadian trucks have the GCWR on a door tag.

The licensed weight (GCWR) is on the registration and the rest is on the door.
