First Fuel Filter Change Due - How Do You Prime Push Button Start Truck

Friends,

I'm at my first fuel filter change and going thru the steps. Everything looks straight forward except how do you bump the starter without starting on a push-button start truck? My factory service manual mentions bumping the key, like all the trucks I used to own before this one. And, I searched the forum, but could not find priming the fuel system with this starting system.

Hi Ron....I did my first fuel filter change last month. Attached is a pdf file outlining the procedure.

Mine is a 2015 3500 Laramie LB with push button start. Do not depress the brake pedal when you push the button to the run position. Leave it in "run" position for 15-20 seconds then push it to "off". Wait a few seconds and repeat the process. I do the sequence three times, has always worked. Have changed fuel filters three times so far with no issues.

Be extra careful with removal. It can drip all over.

I use clothes washer drip pan that works great for messy jobs. I'll post pics when done.

Draining the rear separator is a breeze on the Cab & Chassis trucks. I simply drain straight into a one gallon milk jug with a portion of the top cut out.

When draining the front filter, I’ve found that a section of 5/8” garden hose will slip straight over the front drain hose. I then simply drain into a pan.....

Don’t forget the Lisle #34900 sensor wrench for the removal of the rear WIF sensor.

The instructions by GSykes are more accurate for the priming procedure, since the starter cannot be “bumped” any longer with the introduction of the Tip Start feature around 2012 or 2013.

I've done mine three times, the front no issue with spills. The rear? Every time!!! I open the drain, let it go until it stops. I twist it off and smash city! Am I missing something? TIA

Rear, open n let drain. Bust filter loose just so it allows more fuel to flow. Close drain and remove filter.

I'm about to do the filters soon...for the rear... after draining it.... and after breaking it loose, I'm going to put it in a freezer bag. I let ya'll know how that works

I think he is asking about the solder on the base of the fuel filter adapter. I have the same thing.

If so....that is for the thermistor.....it controls the heater in the rear separator base.

Sorry for not getting back sooner! Thats it! I've never noticed it on mine. The pictures you posted provide a much clearer picture then what I see when I'm under my truck!

It especially useful on these trucks where you need to reach the back of the engine. I broke the OEM air filter housing tab on my 09 trying to steady myself on a step ladder. Got it on Amazon with free shipping.
