Truck Manufacturer Factory To Employ 2,000 Workers
All About Arizona News April 2, 201918 Views1 min Read

Set to employ approximately 2,000 people, a facility for a maker of zero-emissions heavy trucks will begin manufacturing in 2022 in central Arizona.

Without citing a price, Phoenix-based Nikola Motor Co. announced the purchase of roughly 400 acres of raw land in Coolidge from Saint Holdings. Plans include the building of hydrogen-electric trucks at the facility.

Served by rail connections, the land is located in the Inland Port Arizona industrial park.

A privately-owned company, Nikola designs and manufactures hydrogen-electric vehicles, electric-vehicle drivetrains, components, energy-storage systems and hydrogen stations. The company currently employs about 80 people at an office near Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix.

Nikola claims to have 13,000 orders for what it calls the nation’s most advanced semi-trucks.

By 2024, the factory will ramp up to around 2,000 jobs. Nikola’s presence in the area could bring thousands of additional jobs at suppliers and related businesses, said Trevor Milton, Nikola’s CEO.

The investment will be a “huge benefit to Coolidge and the surrounding areas for decades to come,” he predicted.

Nikola plans to unveil its products at a media event in Scottsdale on April 16 and 17.

Sounds good, but not holding my breath. These people have also been rattling on about an electric SxS for quite a while. This could be vaporware.

Just to be clear... There is no such thing as a zero emissions vehicle. Because even if a vehicle emits no noxious fumes out a tailpipe, the mining, mining equipment, manufacturing equipment, factories, assembly lines, and energy used, etc. to make those vehicles cant be overlooked.
Plus they still use rubber/carbon tires which wear and create waste and are pilling up around the world since no one knows what to do with them. And emission free vehicles still use various pollutants like batteries and greases/oils in order to function.

So environmentalism can shove their impossible pipe dreams up their yahoo's because I'm getting tired of paying for it...

This concept is not new, Amazon uses forklifts already powered by hydrogen fuel. The price tag is enormous, the electronics alone controlling them are VERY expensive, and they do have problems with them. The theory is, the hydrogen charges the batteries as the lift runs. Many safety issues, first and formost, you cannot see the hydrogen burn and special sensors are required to sound an alarm if it does ignite. The Hydrogen filling stations are extremely dangerous, if the hydrogen tank were to explode, its a six mile radius blast zone. The plant to maintain the fuel is also 1000 times more expensive then a filling station. Which means government subsidizing of these stations, do I smell more taxes?????

Truck OEM's are getting pretty savvy in regard to saving fuel anyways....

This is the water pump from a DD13, DD15 engines have these now too..

It's got a viscous drive pulley.......

Emissions definition.

the production and discharge of something, especially gas or radiation

Technically, EV's and FCV's ARE zero emission vehicles.
Wether or not they are viable or economical is a whole nother subject.

It's not on all of them, I see the majority on the trucks with the "Evolution" package which include all kinds of little fuel saving trinkets such as wheel covers, very low to the ground fairings on each side, a maximum RPM of 1600 when in high gear, etc. so I assume that it is a fuel saver as well as a warm up aid....

Had a Western Star yesterday that required a 6-8 hour parked regen due to an EGR failure....Seth checked the fuel gauge several times and we estimated it took 25 gallons of fuel in the first 4 hours......way to save the planet......

Bet that'll wear out some crank case oil in a hurry.
