Hey Guys
I'm going to be pulling 16k Lb trailer for 12k miles on flat and mountain The truck & trailer will be 23000 Lbs total. The truck has 44000 miles on it now. Anyone can give me their thoughts good or bad If I'll have any problems.. Has diesel engine with no mods. only after market air bags.

My 2500 4x4 is rated to pull 16,300 with only a bumper pull. I can only load 2375-ish in the bed..

Not real familiar with air bags, but it sounds like they don't replace the original springs, but are a "helper spring"?

Sounds like you might be pushing your limits if its a bumper pull, and over the limit if its a gooseneck/5th wheel. Might depend on how your after market airbags are rated to help your rear springs.

I have the leaf springs, you have the coil springs. 2500 springs alone are not designed to support the pin weight that 3500 springs can support.

Are you saying the trailer GVW is 16k or the actual weight is 16k lbs?
Goose neck, 5th wheel, or tag (bumper pull)?

There are some 16K trailers that you could tow with that rig, and some that would overload you.

You haven’t said some of the important details.

What kind of trailer? 5er? Gooseneck? Bumper Pull?

What wheels do you have? 17’s will be a limiting factor on payload availability.

CC? Reg Cab? Long Bed? Short Bed?

Weigh your rig so you can see how much weight is on each axle/tire. With 8k axles, hopefully you have bigger brakes. You've got to be able to stop!!!! Find an extreme area to make a test run to find out if how much stress YOU and the equipment are willing to endure for that many miles

I think my tow rating 16350# + my truck weight 7650 puts me right at 24,000 lbs. If he has a heavier truck, he might be overloaded (long bed, extra options, etc). His transmission alone is already heavier than my g56. He, also has the stronger frame which likely weighs more?

My “book” weight is 7983, but a trip to the scales on the way home from the dealer put it at 8550 with me in it. That’s not that too far off, but if one is getting close to RAWR (tires mostly) they need to find a scale. The truck is almost always heavier than you think.

No. Have not weighed it. That is (likely the "dry") book weight.

My transmission coolers, goose neck hitch, and other small things like bypass oil filter, sulastic shackles, centramatics, larger rear diff cover, and extra fluids for diff, ttanny diesel motor oil, etc probably add at least 100 lbs to it. Add me and a few things in the bed and i'm over 8000 lbs easy.

Got the truck & trailer weighed today. With just the truck on the scale with trailer hooked up it was 11600 lbs... With the truck and trailer on scale the Total was 22960 lbs . Someone mentioned about stopping. That's no problem The trailer has New hydraulic brakes with new rotors and new pads, new hubs, new bearings and new tires all the way around. I know its pushing the envelope but I have no choice and have to work with what I've got..

What’s important is all axle weights and trailer tongue weight, if your a bumper pull. Give us a bit more info, if your a goose, 5ver or bumper pull.

Your truck will pull that trailer without any problems. I had the exact same truck as yours and pulled a 16,000lb toyhauler. Your air bags will definitely help in the sagging. Check the load rating on your tires is the only concern. Flat ground it will tow in 6th, slight hills to moderate hills stay in 5th, steep mountains it will probably drop down to 4th at times if you're trying to maintain 65 mph.
Put it in tow haul mode and exhaust brake on, drive prudent for conditions, and most of all enjoy yourself.

So the important number is what was the rear axle weight. You are over the truck 6500 RGAWR by a few hundred pounds. Do you have tires rated to 3640? I do not see where you stated trim level of the truck. Tradesman's still have 17" tires I believe, so if you have those, you are over the tire rating. SnoKing

Only thing I can chime in is, "what year truck, trim, etc." My 17 Tradesman has 18" rubber.

Last year for 17" rims on tradesman was 2013.

If you have the chrome optiion. Might be other non-option rims are 17 inch?
