Trans gear indicator showing R when in park

My 06 is showing it to be in Reverse when its in park. Which is causing issues. I replaced the range sensor on transmission, sams resuts. I unhooked shift cable,trans is in park. Tried adjusting the shift cable,no change. The cable was all the way up,letting it down seems to make it worse. Is it time for a new cable? Thanks

If the transmission is actually all the way in Park and still showing R, the rooster comb on the top of the VB is either loose or the ramp the range sensor runs on is worn or the range sensor is not installed correctly yet.

Put a new shift cable on. Seems to be fixed.

Mine is starting to do the same thing, did you have to go to dealer for the cable?

Might try bending the cable mount bracket on the trans, they bend over time, then reset the cable adjustment. If that still won't give enough adjustment then it is new cable time.

Yes,i wanted a mopar. But you can get others.

I'm having a similar problem. Had the shift cable replaced a few months ago after the eyelet broke. Slowly the indicator on the dash has stopped showing P, but the transmission indeed goes into park. Engine still starts.

I would like to adjust the cable under the dash, but have a question about what happens once the adjuster lock tab is unlocked. Does the cable slide freely at this point or is there an adjustment knob/screw to help fine tune the adjustment?

Not sure on what to tell you. My cable was stretched to the point,i couldnt adjust mine. You can find the procedure for adjustment online.
