I am ready to get a service manual. I can’t figure out how to take apart or adjust some (simple) things (for example, I just can’t find the headlight adjustment or removal screws even with the help here). I don’t plan on heavy repairs - no place to do it.

I see a number of books on Amazon besides Mopar such as Chiltons and Haynes.

I would prefer not to spend hundreds of $$ on this.

Suggestions?

There are no real paper service manuals for these trucks. FCA has farmed that out to tech authority. It’s in cd form and doesn’t include all wiring diagrams. techauthority.com is the place to start.

I purchased the FCA service manual CD for my 2009 Ram 4500, my 2014 Jeep Wrangler, and my 2017 Ram 5500. The 2009 had the wiring diagrams that had great details and embedded hyperlinks for expanding view. They cut it out of the 2014 Jeep manual and my 2017 manual. In my opinion, the FCA manuals are better than nothing, but not as detailed as in the past. I doubt these are what the FCA mechanics use.

Friends,

Thought I share with you I just visited the Tech Authority website today and purchased the wiring diagrams and troubleshooting for my 2017 Ram 5500 for $95. They used to provide this as a second tab on my 2009 Ram 4500 OEM CD manual. And of course, its USB versus CD, but I can live with that. What caused me to check was the Service Manual referenced see the wiring diagrams to troubleshoot. So, I checked the website and indeed they are available.

Now, I can trace circuits and grounds as each connector, ground point, splice are identified by location on the frame and body. I'll review it when I receive it and post results here. I believe I'll be able to find where FCA dropped the guidelines control for my 5500 camera and install it to make them work. I have a whole separate thread on the guidelines for the backup camera.

Cheers, Ron

I bought the service manual and wiring diagrams together at a slightly discounted price. If I remember correctly it was about $170 total.
Yep, that option popped up first for both the 5500 and my Wrangler yesterday. I don't recall seeing the option when I purchased them right after each vehicle purchase, though.

Oh well, getting them now.

Greetings; Is the format .pdf to permit word searching, highlighting, etc.?

Although it uses Adobe, it doesn't appear to function like a normal PDF file and at least for me is not searchable. Sometimes, it takes a while of manually searching to find what your looking for. The menus are pretty good. Haven't figured out highlighting either.

I guess, it's better than nothing and serves its purpose.

Gee, I hope its not like their owners manuals, the Italians must be having translation issues, the owners manuals are almost worthless.

I hear ya on the OM, at least its avail free as a soft copy, its searchable, and the maintenance schedule the best part about it.

When I bought my 2017 Ram 5500, it was about a week after I purchased it getting the BW gooseneck hitch swapped out for the BW companion hitch, I downloaded and read the OM, the diesel and Uconnect, Nav 8.4 supplements. It did help understanding major points about the truck.

I think the MOST lacking about them is failing to document some of the operational issues. But compared to Cadillac, FCA is a little better. Not saying much with the bar low.

Anyway, I have a LOT of idle time on my truck playing with the NAV 8.4.

I bought one for my 2012 3500 on CD. Never could get it to work, open.
Called Tech and they try this and that and still no worky.
Anyone need this? As my truck tossed a rod and I have a 2018 now.

Yep, FCA 2017 Ram and 2014 Jeep manuals not compatible with MS Edge; Gotta go F12, imulate MS Internet Explorer, have Adobe Reader, and allow active x controls.
