I am approaching my ccv filter service mileage and want to know what is required to service in addition to changing the filter. The dealer is quoting around $500.00 for the service which includes the filter change and cleaning the ccv system. I'm getting up in years and don't feel like tackling this myself. Mechanical work is no longer fun for me. The truck is stock and runs great. Thanks

Look in your owners manual for 60K mile maint to see if you want dealer to pkg it. I'm not doing any maint on my 2019 Ram 1500, so told my dealer to manage it. I just take it in around the interval specified in the owners manual.

I'll be happy to look it up for you and post it if you don't have it.

Cheers, Ron

Just the parts kit (filter+gaskets/orings) from Geno's is $126 + shipping. So $500 doesn't look too bad - CCV filter is easy, pulling and cleaning the EGR Valve and Cooler is a job...

Hey RamDuk,
Sorry I misinterpreted your question... thought you were asking ALL the maintenance that needs to be done when approaching CCV filter maintenance (60K miles), not just what's entailed in doing the CCV filter and EGR cleaning. The reason I thought you were asking 60K miles maintenance is a biggie when the Aisin and maybe 68RFE need fluid and filter changes. I don't do auto transmission fluid filter changes anymore and the only reason I still do oil and coolant changes myself is my BIL is a master diesel mechanic and generator electrician on commercial generators and I can recycle through him.

My Ram dealer is really good with reasonable pricing on fluid filter changes. I really was amazed when they preformed full service on the Aisin on my former Ram 4500 for $328 which included flushing, changing fluid and filter, inspecting it and adjusting, if needed. I was actually challenged on that price and what was done in another thread on the TDR, but I had the receipt from when it was done. Dealers have coupons, specials, and overhead is lower when the have ATF4 and engine oil in 55 gallon barrels. In fact in the day when I owned three Ram Cummins trucks at the same time, I purchased a 33 gallon barrel of Amsoil 15W-40 synthetic. Now, I can get an oil/filter change on my 5500 for $140 with factory fill, so I may start having them do that for me in the future too. I get coupons emailed to me all the time.

Finally, if you have a good dealer, see if there is deal to be had for packaging the 60K mile maintenance or if there are specials/coupons to take advantage of.

Please let us know what you end up doing. Nothing wrong with having dealer to perform recurring maintenance and fluid/filter changes.

Cheers,

Ron

That’s not a bad price IF they perform the full service.
Jeff,
I agree. I never performed the service, but I did an EGR and DPF delete on my 2009 4500 in 2009 and installed it all back in 2016. Quite a bit of work taking the EGR and EGR Valve off and cleaning them. I'm at the turning point in my life now where I call the dealer to get a quote for service before doing it myself. Sometimes, it's easy to go with the dealer, especially if you trust them.

Cheers, Ron

The egr valve has been updated on the later trucks and still gets dirty. It’s just better at working when dirty. If I owned a 13+ I would still clean it. The replacement cost was over $600 3 years ago, cleaning is cheap.

Thanks to all for the input. I will go over the full maintenance schedule when I hit that mark. I only use the rig for towing my travel trailer and we are not traveling much right now so it will take a few months to hit the mileage.
