We bought two best in the whole world club sandwiches for lunch and two amazing brisket sandwiches for supper. You cant beat em. Also years ago bought a huge BBQ smoker, , fire ring, a med size grill, and a table top grill we carry in the RV. I LIKE Bucees!:D;)

you guys are getting wrapped up in this...but how many or who has coked their turbo bearings?.....I'm not saying don't follow the guidance in the owners manual....and I do look at EGT1 on my Scanauge before shutting down....but geeze...don't go crazy...LOL
 
Yes sir, the one in New Braunfels Tex is the world's largest convenience store, at 67,000 sq ft of sales space. Everything they make is superior... breakfast tacos, kalaches, sandwiches, salads... lots of cool keepsakes, coolers, grills. My grill had to be put on my truck with a, forklift and I used my front end loader to unload it.

I'm a little more concerned than maybe you are because I'm adding 60HP and 120+ lb ft tq with a performance module. It brings my de-rated 2017 Ram 5500 325 HP up to 385HP and my 750 Lb Ft TQ to ~870Lb Ft. Same HP and a little less TQ than the P/Us. So, because I'm add power, even within all specs of the truck, I pay more attention to it. Type As like to know this stuff. Its in our nature.

And let me add, the C&Cs powered up to nearly the same numbers as the pickups are plain fun to drive. My 12.2Klb truck is actually punchy off the line and moves smartly in traffic.

And to back to my point, I believe it takes EGT 1 longer to reflect temp changes upstream in the exhaust manifold by quite a few minutes.

So, we're all happy and good! :D

Still heading back from Columbus. We have the dog and I have started it, locked it, and let idle for a long time. In fact this morning it ran for at least 45 minutes with the dog in the cool cab while I got a couple new trailer tires. I tried to set the idle shut down a while back and it looks like it is commercial truck only feature.
 
OK; I do not have a 4th gen truck but I do have the early 6.7L Cummins in my 2008 truck. I added a Smarty S67 in 2009, do to a lot of recalls and visits to the dealer for CEL's and so, forth. When I added the SmartyS67, I all ready had gages that I could monitor Boost, EGT's and the transmission temperatures. Before the install of the Smarty I could never ever get the EGT's below 350F. The truck could idle all day long and the EGT's would still be 350F. When I towed my lighter 5er out west I could easily see 1,450F during REGN after the REGN process was completed the EGT's would drop to around 900F when towing. My EGT's would lower has I pulled into a rest area to around the 400 or 450F range. I would leave the truck idle has I would check my trailer tires with an IFR gun (1 minute) and when I was done the EGT's would be 350F. They would not go any lower than that. So, the engine was shut off and I would use the facilities.

Now my truck has 126,000 + miles on the OD and I still have the original turbo on the engine, it has never been cooked at this temp. When the Smarty was installed I added 60HP/120flb-ft as measured at the rear wheels per MAD's, who sold the Smarty. I still watch my EGT's when towing and non-towing, when I go to turn the engine off after towing my heavier 5er the EGT's at idle will still not go below 300F. This is after pulling into a rest stop and walking around the trailer and truck measuring the wheel temps. So, in my very humble opinion leaving a stock engine idle for 1 to 5 minutes should be sufficient to prevent damage to the current 4th gen turbo design.

That's nearly exactly what I saw on my 09 4500, except I ran level 5 (90 HP/180TQ). Although the oil, coolant, and transmission temps don't reflect a hotter running engine on the 4th Gens, initial assessment seems they are hotter at the exhaust manifold, which seems to be reported by 4th Gen owners who have installed EGT probes into the exhaust manifold or interpolated exhaust manifold temps reading EGT 1 probe downstream of the turbo.

After I recover from surgery, I'm going to turn off my performance module to baseline the EGT readings. I can test the logging feature on my new Edge CST2 Monitor.

Ron, my younger son has a 2013.5 with a tune from EFIlive and is using the Edge Insight CTS2 that monitors the engine. This has been under the knife since the truck was a Canadian truck and he could not obtain any warranty or recall service in the US, for emission issues. His EGT's are very close to mine within 5 to 10 deg's of my readings at idle.

So, I would think any long term idling would be a waste of fuel and time. If this was my truck and I was towing my Cedar Creek with it, the maximum time I would let the truck idle would be 5 mins. This would include the time from exiting the interstate to the rest area and walking around to check tire temps.
Just my humble opinion.

Jim, thanks. I'm only looking at extended cool down watching the EGT1 gauge on my CST2. Going home, have 1/2 mile 35MPH and 10 MPH down 1/4 caleache road, so my truck is pretty much cooled down when pull into garage, shut off A/C and shut down. After more than a year of owning the truck, I pretty much follow cooldown from manual. I go longer when towing heavy with outside temps near and over 100°. Much of what I'm doing now is learning difference from 3rd gen 6.7L and 4th gen 6.7L.

One more thing, performance module I use gets quite a bit of consternation much like the Edge Tow Pro did in the past due to only changing fueling, unlike programs like Smarty and EFI Live. I'm checking the affect it has on the truck to validate seller's claims of not having impact. So far I buy into because the other systems are smart and adjust based upon sensor input. Pretty interesting, huh?

I was told that there is no such thing as a 2013.5. Just 2013 model.

When I was at the 2013, Rally for TDR at Columbus IN. in June and the new trucks were rolled out. They were introduced as 2013.5 trucks by the RAM marketing employees there. Since these had a new frame 3500 only for that year and the new emission system with SCR for the Cummins engine and other improvements. Such as the water separator and fuel filter at the rear of the truck, the DEF tank, to name a few. That is why I have referred to them as the 2013.5 models.

Thanks for the correction. I was told that there was no design change midway through the year in 2013, so I should stop using the description 2013.5 when describing my truck. Mine was built in June 2013, so I have no problem using 2013 or 2013.5.

Maybe someone thought it appropriate to correct me even though it was a non-issue?
 
I believe that the RAM folks stated that they did not build any new trucks between Sept. or OCT. 2012 and through the early part of 2013, before the roll-out of the new models with the SCR engines in them. This is what I remember from the rally and I am relying on my memory from 2013 time period so, I could be off on that.

That's the way I remember it also.

So the ref may be for the engine versus the truck?

Makes sense. But in 2013, they only produced SCR/DEF trucks. And you can't by a truck without an engine
