ECM repair or replacement

2008 68rfe P0775 P0846 Help

I have a 2007.5 Ram 2500 Megacab 6.7 CTD. The truck has been deleted for the last 6 years with no problems. 6 months ago the truck just died while rolling up to a stoplight. Check gauges light came on and gear indicator disappeared. Sent off ECM for repair due to no communication issue. Received new ECM and truck ran for 5 months with no issues. Then same scenario happened. Sent ECM out again. Received it back and didn't even get to drive the truck before the same thing happened. I have checked all the grounds, unhooked the fan clutch, check battery temp sensor, ohmed out crossover wire. Everything checks out. I am at a loss on what else to check. Hopefully someone can give me something else to check. I have exhausted all I know without towing to a dealership and spending another $3k to fix it. TIA.

I can't help you with the ECM issue, but have checked to see if a dealer will even work on a deleted truck? All their diagnostics and expertise lies with a fully emission equipped truck.

Anyway, good luck fixing your truck.

Cheers, Ron

Not sure what to look at next, as is sounds like you did the usual checks.. but it sounds like you are having the original ECM "fixed". If so, I might recommend you consider a new ECM entirely. They could be doing a quick check on it, finding it passes test, then sending it back, and you seem to be dealing with an intermittent problem. I'd start there and see if that changes anything.

OP if you're still here I would be curious to hear an update and if you've solved this. I'm having a similar problem with my 07.5. Have a few questions that might be helpful for some of us.

What tuner were you running? Not trying to blame this and don't think it's related but curious.

Do you know if you received your original ECM back both times it was "fixed" or was it swapped out for a different one? I've heard the early 6.7 ECM's are more problematic and from the bit I've pieced together mine would function after reflashing and pass bench testing most of the time but not work reliably in the truck.

When the truck died did you check codes in all modules? Might be some clues there if there's anything else going on outside the ECM.
