2006 Timing Cover/Crank Seal Leak Questions

I have a leak coming from the front of my engine, but its difficult to see exactly where it is coming from since the cooling fan blows the oil around quite a bit. I've read a fair bit about the repair and have a crank seal with a wear sleeve on the way, but there were some questions I have:

1) Several of the articles I have read state that you have to slide the cam forward as part of the repair procedure. Is this the case?
2) Most of what I have read doesn't mention a timing cover gasket replacement, it seems black RTV is the sealant of choice. Is this correct?
3) What about the CCV filter? I have found information on almost every year but the 2006.

Any additional advice for this repair would be greatly appreciated!

The best way to inspect for any oil leak is to clean the area completely,then run or drive just far enough to show leak.There are a few possibilities for a leak up front,without the proper diag you are just guessing and may be throwing parts/repairs at the wrong area.
The cam only needs to be removed if it is a leaking gear housing,and even then there is a work around.Just the tin timing cover needs to be removed if the seal is your culprit.
Your truck is not equipped with a ccv filter

It could be the crank seal, just as likely it is the accessory cover seal underneath the fan mount. Clean every thing up first and see if you can spot it, especially under and behind the fan mount.

It could be the crank seal, just as likely it is the accessory cover seal underneath the fan mount. Clean every thing up first and see if you can spot it, especially under and behind the fan mount.

The cam gear prevents you from removing the front case to change the gasket. You can't get to some of the bolts.

The front cover uses RTV, the front case has a gasket.

3) What about the CCV filter? I have found information on almost every year but the 2006.
06 and up don't have a replaceable CCV filter. 03-05 do.
