I've been a 55 year user of Valvoline motor oil. Now my new 2018 is filled with Shell Rotella. Anyone with technical comparisons re: wear, varnish, etc.? I'd like to stay with Valvoline product. Thanks.

I am no expert. But from all the posts that I have read, if your specification is CJ4 and depending on where you live (mine is a 2016 and I live in AZ and stayed with the Rotella T4) you can use any brand you want, as long as it meets the CJ-4 rating. On Genos Garage website there is a write up on all the brands and their recommendations. I believe www.genosgarage.com
The Valvoline Premium Blue is #1 on their list.

Can't go wrong with ANY Oil that has the proper specs for it.
It's not Rocket science.
Just a simple Diesel Engine that runs all around the world in 180 Countrys or so - with just the oil that is available there.

Means - go with your Valvoline, it's as good as any other Oil.

It came with Rotella because they won the bid, not because it’s any better than any other oil that meets the spec.
