comrades! can the tailgate recall be done while i wait for vehicle? the service writer told me they need it for a day. i live an hour from dealer, and was hoping i could wait. any input appreciated. cheers!

I bought the part on line for like $3 with shipping and took alll of 10 minutes to install. I would of spent more that $3 in diesel going to the dealer for them to do this recall. Not to mention sitting on my tush for 2 hours waiting my turn in the service line.

hey comrade - do you have a link or any additional info regarding your post? going to the dealer really stinks for me. an hour away....thanks in advance. cheers!

The recall states 0.2 hrs (i.e., 12 minutes). Sounds about right for as easy as it is. I disconnected the electric from mine a long time ago because I don't like it locking and unlocking with the doors and don't want it locked except when I have a reason to lock it. I paid the dealer parts department to make a couple of regular keys for my tailgate. I think it was a Jeep key blank that fit and I simply ripped off all the rubber stuff and ground it down to a shape I liked and put it on the keyring with the fob and my house key.

Just did the tailgate recall. Thank you for the part #. Had to have my wife come out and help. She said that she could of done the recall that it was the silliest thing that she has seen.
So far water pump recall and tailgate recall.

I have covered 2 RAMS recalls.

The average time for you to repair a tailgate is just 15-20 minutes. When I had mine done I waited for 1hr. Maybe because the dealer is busy since it's saturday.

Dealer on the phone told me to leave the truck for 4 hours for the tailgate switch recall. When I got there they said, just stand by, it only takes 20 minutes! And I think it took less than that.

you are fortunate to have a dealer that works on a Saturday. My dealer barely does oil changes on the weekend.

I was just reading on the Ford form, Go ahead shoot me for being a trader.. But it looks like they got their tailgate latch parts from the same supplier as RAM . They are having the same broken stop tab problem causing the tailgate to open. Just thought everyone on here would get a chuckle out of that... well except for those of us that lost some or all of our load due to the gate opening.

Yes, the Ram dealer that did my tailgate recall last week said the same. He saw Ford had basically the same recall

Take the inner panel off and unplug the cable to the solenoid. I had my disable for a couple years, and then got a BakFlip cover, so I plugged it back in again.
Ok thanks!! So unplugging it will only affect the power to the tailgate LOCK and not the back-up camera?
