***Need help*** Loosing oil from crank case tube

Cooling hose.

I am coming down with neuropathy in my feet, and I fully expect to eventually lose the feeling in the soles of my feet like my dear ol' mother. (Additionally, my clutch overhaul a couple years ago (with a new OE Luk) somehow introduced a new shudder on launch no matter how I finesse the pedal. We didn't replace the hydraulics at the time....maybe should have.)

But I don't want to give up my mighty diesel. Is it feasible to convert a 3rd generation truck from stick to automatic?

Technically possible? Sure. Financially feasible? No way. I think you'd save a bunch of money and headaches by just selling the truck and buying an automatic equipped truck. Sorry to hear about your health issues.

If only someone would come up with a way to put one of the new auto's in our old trucks!
BTW, hydraulics wont help launch shudder. (I'm sure that will be argued with but that's my experience)

Sorry to hear about your nerve issues. I too have looked into changing over but I would never go from a 6 speed stick to a 4 speed auto. I was looking into the 68RFE 6 speed but it is a whole lot of money and electronics. I have had 4 back surgeries and my clutch knee is shot but I still drive it for towing. Can't beat the 6 speed for towing. Wish you well. If I was going to sell, look for a 2006 or early 2007 Duramax LBZ because it has the Allison with all 6 speeds enabled in the trans. Just make sure the production date is BEFORE January 1, 2007.

Why not just put the 6 speed allison auto kit in it, comes with all you need to do a conversion, and the computer to operate it

Yeah and that read like it was Auto to Auto swap.

So not sure if it would be more for manual to auto.

Call your insurance company FIRST! The book value of your truck if it's stolen, burned to the ground, or someone plows into it is still $X.xx. Try and find a way to cover the chunk of change your are going to drop into the truck for a conversion... Classic insurance, maybe. Commercial insurance with declared value is expensive. Thus a conversion will be a sunk cost.

"shudder on launch" Ladder bars (like I installed) help with the spring wrap that contributes to this. Changing pinion angles on the diff, poly center bearings in long driveshafts or 1 piece driveshafts... The clutch may have hot spots, oil, or other problems with the friction and surfaces including hanging up on worn splines, sliders, etc.

The cost of a conversion, if you sell your truck outright, would make how many NEW truck payments? Sale price of your old truck makes how many new truck payments? Of course you can gamble on used, but, my point is made on the extreme end of the "new" cost scale.

If you are not towing the 6.4 Hemi isn't exactly door handles, but, a 6.7 HO will have a hard time walking away from one Uh, on the strip, yeah, on the drag strip.

My G56 is the late one with .74 6th. The Allison TOWING Over drive or 5th is only .77 to 1. The 68RFE has a .82 to 1, first over drive or 5th gear. I think that the Allison 5th gear, OD would be too tall for my application.

Oh well, he asked for suggestions!
Which was a good one! I DID look through ATS transmissions web site and was impressed with what they do.
Like the old saying... "All you need is LOTS of money" But, If you like your truck and don't want the headaches with the newer trucks and the emission stuff, then you spend the money. My early 2007, 5.9 only has 110,000 miles on it with the G56. Been a one owner, one driver truck. What do you think I could get for the whole G56 4x4 trans, pedals, flywheel and clutch setup? That could help offset the Auto swap.

I'm just like you, 3 back surgeries and an early 07 5.9 with G56, tired of shifting too, I have thought about this conversion, I like my 5.9 and am NOT getting rid of it for the 6.7 junk, Not trying to start a war, just my opinion from what I have read from you that own them.even though I like the looks of the body and interior

Who steers while you shift and pull clutch? One of the reasons I float the gears, so I don't have to push in the clutch pedal

You didn't read the link i provided?
The switch-lever for the clutch is on top of your stick. The same hand that shifts operates clutch.
We see that a lot in European disabled cars, common technic.
