There is a resurgence in the popularity of pre-emissions Class 8 trucks. Some are rescued from out behind the garage or even from salvage yards.
We sell older model engines constantly, the emissions compliant engines are something that a poor man simply cannot afford to operate once out of warranty...

Large fleets continue to trade out before the warranty expires....

This 525 HP N-14 arrived this morning...simplicity..........

I hope guys like him who are making the realistic choice are able to run for a while. It’s nice to know these engines are still coming through the system.

Commiefornia is ridiculous with this, not that anyone would be surprised.

Little more background where Commiefornia already paved the way to do this despite interfering with interstate commerce. The law's exemptions to CA businesses to STILL run pre DPF emissions are an eye opener while pooping on out of state trucking going in/out of CA.

Owner Operator Independent Driver Association, OOIDA, lawsuit info. It's a good read and shows how the courts run over a weak Congress. Also consider the timeframe and the "Puppet on strings" sitting in the Oval Office.

On January 1, 2012 the California Air Resources Board’s Truck and Bus Regulation (“CARB regulation”) became effective, requiring 1996-2006 model year vehicle weighing over 14,000 pounds to meet certain emissions reduction requirements imposed by the State of California on both intrastate and interstate carriers and owner-operators. Compliance with the regulations, which requires operators residing outside California to install particulate matter filters on their engines. These requirements, will impose an unreasonably disparate economic burden on owner-operators who are required to spend many thousands of dollars to retrofit their equipment if they wish to carry freight within California.

That’s what’s going on in NYS and NYC, but only if you want to be a contractor who does city or state work, and the window to comply is closing.
I suppose that N14 is going in a pre ‘96 truck.

The obvious solution is for all to refuse to do business in Ca. or with NYC. Will it happen? Of course not. That would require real principles to be put before $$$.

Business 101 : principles cost money. The advanced course is Capitalism: everything is for sale at a price. The Graduate course is: You can buy anything and anyone with enough money. Side note: if you can't buy them over their principals you SMEAR them so badly they go broke defending themselves. Business people lie awake at night figuring out how to add another "FEE" or screw their competition out of business.

Business when you have enough money to "Burn" : principles the CEO wants to take a stand on may cost money. Guns, gun free zones in your business, Nike, politics...

So "local" CA businesses got an exemption to the DPF requirement that immediately applied to out of state companies. And the bid(s) simply goes up to cover newer equipment emissions costs.

Or just spend the $5000 on the retrofit. A friend who runs a motorcycle shop got trained and certified to do these DOC installs has been busier than a one arm wallpaper hanger. He’s doing a small fleet of 2000-2003 Mack E7’s.
That owner will keep his city contracts for $25000 and is now compliant until the next shakedown.

Capitalism is the business of the USA.

Shakedown is the exact term. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with capitalism. It’s overreach by an autocratic government forcing private business to make expensive modifications or purchases for dubious results. Al for political capital to be spent on those voters who don’t have the ability to form rational conclusions. Hence my views on refusal to do business in those locations and with those government entities. Principles mean nothing until you pay the price for having them.
