Brand new ISB 6.7L showed up last week...

Good Cummins Article

The Bosch unit I installed about 5 years ago is developing a wiggle in the bearings. It's not leaking, but it's gotta go before winter sets in.
So, out in TDR land, what pump do we like?

My first pump was from CARQUEST, a GMB, it lasted 24k miles and 13 months. I changed to Napa 3 years ago and 44k miles so far.

When the pump on my '05 failed it was on a Sunday, and the local Checker, now O'Reilly, was the only place open. It was leaking within a week, so I returned it for a refund, and got one from NAPA, and it was still OK when I sold the truck.

Im still on my original pump. But a few years ago I thought I smelled coolant just before going on a long road trip. I had it looked at by the premier shop in the pnw and they didnt find anything. Just in case, I bought a pump from him just to keep with me if the pump did have problems on the road. I still have that pump under the back seat.
The pump that he recommended and sold me was a caterpillar. I have no experience with it. But this is a guy that most around here trust for their diesel trucks.

When I worked for Cat, the company would not brand any part they sold unless it stated Cat on the part and packaging with the trademark symbol on the part. There where exceptions to this such as Parker Hannifin or Weatherhead components, small hydraulic fittings. I even think the Rexroth hydraulic pumps we used on the Excavators were in Cat labeled packaging.

But things could have changed in 11 years since I have retired.

Mine seem to go every 2-3 years. I’ve tried everything mentioned here, and I think NAPA’s last longest. However they’ve all had about the same life in my truck.

I've been through many water pumps and finally found a good one several years ago. It was called a Tough One that came with a lifetime warranty. I believe it came from Advanced Auto Parts.

I purchased a 2003 3500 QC SRW in June 2003. The water pump failed at 125,000 miles; I had it replaced at a Dodge dealer in Oregon. Truck now has 221,000 miles; replacement water pump still doing fine with 96,000 miles on it. If it lasts to 110,000 miles I'll probably do a "pre-emptive" repair and replace it with another Cummins water pump so I won't have unscheduled "down time" out on the road.

Might be just my experience but I bought the NAPA unit. After a half hour of messing with it I gave up, couldn't get it to fit. When I compared it to the OE unit the casting was a fraction wider and it interfered with the block casting. Bought an OE unit and I was up and running in 5 minutes.
Just my experience but I'm sticking with OE.
