Detachable gooseneck trailer, like a big truck?

3500 SRW Aisin 3.42 with 15,000 5'er - opinions ?

Here's a conundrum for you. I did some repairs to my truck that required me to remove the trailer plug receptacle. Before I unplugged it everything was working fine, when I put it back together I got a "check trailer wiring" error message on my Maxbrake controller. I re-seated the plug in the back of the truck receptacle and the message went away but I still didn't have any trailer brakes. Finally here's the conundrum, when I test the brake contact at the truck receptacle with a multi-meter I get a 12 VDC reading without any input from the controller but when I apply a test light to the contact nothing happens.

I hope this makes sense, ask questions if you have any.

Thanks

If I remember correctly you will get 12 VOLT at the BRAKE wire - that is how the maxbrake knows a trailer is connected. There isn't enough AMPS to operate a light w/o the brakes applied (pedal or slide). Does the light work if the brake pedal is depressed or the slider is moved? If so, I'd check for a ground issue.

I miss my MaxBrake!!!

Not me. its right where I installed it!

How about an actual from a meter resistance check and the value in Ohms on the trailer receptacle?

I've only had my Maxbrake hooked to magnetic brakes ONE time for a test drive. I saw something I don't see on my EOH disc brakes, it showed (IIRC) an AMPERAGE display while braking.

To show amps, circuit must be complete to the magnets.

Ok, first thanks for all the response. I hooked up my old Prodigy and that works so I have to ass-u-me that it's my Maxbrake. There is an "M17" in the upper left corner if anyone knows what that means. Also, when I move the slide to apply brake there is no indicator bar on the screen. I hate it but it looks like I'm going to have to replace the best controller I ever had.
On that note, is there anything out there that works like the MB? When last did the research the best I could find was the Tekonsha 90195 P3. Is that the case? Please give me your opinions and suggestions. I'm hauling a 13K horse trailer with magnetic brakes on both axles.

Thanks

Gene

Did you unplug it (the max brake) from power - that could reset it.
Whenever anyone asks me about a problem with a computer or a phone etc., I ask them "did you restart it"? Why I don't follow my own advice is a mystery to me. I unplugged the old Prodigy and plugged my Maxbrake back in and guess what? That's right, it's working. Thank you Dan for the kick in the butt. I can't tell you guys how relieved I am. I love my MB. It's the best controller I've ever used and was not looking forward to losing it.

Thanks again for all the help, as usual TDR comes through.

My MaxBrake when I plugged my RV into the bed outlet turned on the Hydraulic Actuator so the brakes were ON. I unplugged and re plugged same. So I re connected my OE and it worked as well as it could.

Anyone have an idea what to try to get it working again?
