My 2016 Ram 2500 is slowly disintegrating!
I’m not a fan of plastic especially plastic parts, here’s a good reason why and a pic of my fuel fill inlet (plastic) which suddenly started to fall apart, piece by piece.

Is this something others have experienced? Is it a Dodge problem, I’m sure denial will be their claim. It just P/O’s me the use of plastics in a $60 truck all for the sake of minimal weight savings and more $ in their pockets cause it’s cheap plastic
Any ideas?

Could it be mechanical damage from the nozzle?

The reason I say that is the paint is not overly worn and the edges are pretty sharp breaks.

Could be mechanical because it's getting brittle, which is no good.

to me, that damage looks like its from the pump handle bashing into your fuel inlet.? just my .02. cheers!

A bit dramatic to say your truck is "slowly disintegrating". My guess is that you use commercial truck fuel dispensers which have a tight fit for our Rams and just ram it in there. No surprise to me that the fuel fill port would get torn up. I use commercial truck fuel stops all the time and it does take some patience to get the nozzle to fit. Take your time and wiggle in the big dispensers and your fuel fill will last a lot longer.

RAM builds over 200,000 trucks a year and this is the first report of this type of damage I've seen. I would say it's a rather tough piece of plastic.

Mine has had a crack at 6 o'clock for going on 2 years now. Stopped at a truck stop along the freeway in upstate NY, temps were in the single digits. Put large nozzle in fuel neck clicked the trigger and let go of it to stick my hands in my pocket and heard it crack. Probably a combination of cold weather and the heavy hose hanging off of it. I wrapped a thin zip tie around the diameter to keep it from getting worse.

Others have had the issue.

I like the idea of putting a hose clamp around the outside if it. Guy talked about grinding it thinner. I am going to look for a couple three longer thin ones.

Two of these hooked together would do the ticket.

I don’t use truck stop fueling cause I know the nozzle is bigger in Dia. Then the normal gas diesel stations.

For you samf’s, Ram is replacing “FREE “ So go suck an egg about aggressive fueling. Have a great day!
