I use load quite often for tuning purposes and always think of it in terms of fuel rate instead of air flow...especially on a turbo diesel. Easiest way to explain it is the fuel rate on the 04.5-07 5.9 is limited to ~132mm3 but the duration table goes to 140mm3. That's 94%, and the highest load I would see on a stock tune was 94%. Change some limiters around and load will go to 100% without changing the duration table. But 50% load is going to (roughly, based on certain limiters) be 70mm3...plenty of variables but that's the gist of it.

I see the '18 working the same way as load will hit 100% at lower rpms but as rpms increase the load will slowly come off of 100% as there are limiters keeping it from going to 100% of fuel table. Either way you know just how hard the motor is working, versus how hard it can work.

Watching load I am quite impressed how long the AISIN will hold gears before down shifting. While towing it will hold gears well above 90% load, vs early downshifting like so many other vehicles to.

Yes the CTS2 will show when active regen is occurring. It alerts you with a small green line on the top of the screen. You can then monitor EGT3 to see how hot the exhaust is when it leavs the DPF. I've read that EGT's above 600°F are when passive regen starts to occur. Active regen pushes them to 950-1050°F most of the time.

Is there a thermocouple right at the DEF injector?(there should be), if there is, and you can identify/ watch that one, and when that gets to almost 500*f, you should see action at that DEF injector pressure reading.

Being a stock truck I have turned my Alerts off.

The only Alert I wanted was for regen and it's not an option.

I also noticed that with alerts on you have a reduced number of PID's you can monitor. I presume the alerts are resource intensive and thus the PID's are limited.

I agree the alerts can be annoying. I took my wife and the dogs to the grocery store today and its amazing how often I hit max tq. Didn't notice what it was but saw numbers in the high 800s.

I'll likely drive it again this weekend and may run a log file to see the numbers.

Good thread!

Cheers, Ron

AH64ID, I wonder if there is more that it can watch on the 2013 and newer vs my 2012? I was looking for the VGT Actuator position for mine and it's not there? But I do have alerts on, will have to turn them off and see if it shows up then. Lots of good info on here about these fancy contraptions.

There will be PID differences between different engine generations.

My 14 doesn't read any of the DEF PIDs my Scan Gauge supports.
DEF temp, quality (%), and dosing rate. It acknowledges the PIDs but doesn't read anything.

There are two thermocouples that monitor scr cat temps - one at the mid bed and one at the outlet.

I’m looking at the CTS2. It has a nice mount and looks like it’ll monitor lots of stuff. Right now my truck is stock with no performance upgrades and have no desire to do any in the future as well.

What do you use? Do you like it? Pros and cons? Would you recommend what you are using?

I wanted feedback while underway. Therefore a few years back

From what I have read online the EZ LYNK looks pretty cool. Then again I haven't really looked into it very much.

I have a CTS2 on my 01', its a little slow at times but it gives the feeling of reliability with an edge product. They do make it easy to add additional sensors, but that does get expensive quick.
