Rear Main Seal Leak Fix - Anyone use Bars Heavy Duty Leak Repair or Blue Devil

My 05 probably started a Rear Main Seal Leak 10K miles ago, now at 168K miles.
Its not too bad...
Shop Repair is $$$$
Many online testimonials indicate Bars Heavy Duty Main Seal Leak Repair or Blue Devil Main Seal Repair can be effective but my Shop doesn't recommend (vested repair interest?)
Has anyone used these products?
Per the Manufacturers they won't harm your engine...
But maybe there are significant reason not to try this?
On the other hand, my Shop has recommended Seafoam Engine treatment before my next Oil Change to address a "smoking" issue after they performed an injector cleaning that did not solve the problem....

I've never used any oil treatment products because from the time I was a kid it was drummed into my head that the only thing that goes in the crankcase is oil. I think all these products claim they won't harm you engine, but do they promise to buy you a new engine if something goes wrong? And how do you have to prove to them that it was their product that damaged the engine if something happens to it? For what it's worth, I'm very leery of using anything that promises to fix leaks. Radiator sealer destroys your heater core, AC system sealer destroys your AC, etc, etc, etc.

At 168K I’d bet it’s NOT your RR Main Seal.

Hmm... I wonder what it could be if NOT the Rear Main Oil Seal?

Hmm, the rear Bell housing is covered in oil, I get a small oil drip spot around there in my driveway when Ram is parked for days. Shop says NOT the OIL sender and that I have a small leak at one of the front corners of the Oil Pan. What else could it be? Just the Rear cover Gasket? They want/suggest lifting the engine to address both $$$ At least its not urgent...

Never never never use a stop leak product unless you are getting rid of the vehicle. Even then, I wouldn't use them. They cause way more problems than they are worth. Fix the issue the correct way and don't regret it.

Have you checked you check to make sure it is not the VC riser or VC gasket leaking down the back of the engine? All the oil on the bottom side and spreading out of the inspection plate while dry above?

The other leak point is behind the engine adapter with the cam seal. The o-ring seal will seep and make it seem like a rear seal problem. If the leak is coming form behind the engine adapter only good way to fix it is pull it. No idea on additives but probably only partially effective when dealing with both a seal and an o-ring.

Iirc the cam seal was introduced in 06.The main seal is Teflon not the standard rubber most engines use.My guess you oil additives could only worsen your situation

I wouldnt put any stop leak product in my engine. Also the issue with a leak becomes wear of the shaft OD after the leak has been left to persist for a while. Dirt and sand gets in there and abrasively wears the shaft. So then you need to sleeve the shaft as well as change the seal.

I would check the oil pan an the rear seal housing for leaks. Are you sure its not your trans input seal? The Freeze plug on the aft cam journal also sometimes leaks.

All of those require the trans to be split from the engine. Its an easy job.
