Trying to psss the California smog test I have a Banks autominder programmer, I set it back to stock and took it to the test site. NO pass. The comprehensive components monitor won’t rest. It’s been 4weeks and about 1800 miles I’ve have checked 6 or7 times STILL won’t reset. Anyone had this problem? Anyone have a solution?

If it is a federal built truck they will never run. Some Cali trucks will not either. Some have had to go to the referee station to get a waiver

This is a long shot with some element of risk and may not work but if you can obtain some, try running the fuel tank down as low as possible and refill it with enough Jet-A or JP-8. It would be preferable to wait until right before the test to add the Jet-A. IF it passes, add some lubrication oil such as 2 stroke oil or other fuel lubricant ASAP (like as immediately as possible after the test). Then drive straight to a fuel stop and fill up the tank with good ole' #2 diesel. This is likely a hotly contested theory and I am NOT endorsing it's use. The theory being that Kerosene based fuels burn hotter than #2 diesel and thus burn cleaner. This may or may NOT be true. I believe aviation fuels are not low sulfur so this may cause the emissions to become worse or be a wash & no benefit. All I am saying is that it may be worth a try if done well given the costs of passing the emissions test via other means. I am hoping you can get a waiver.

Completely remove the Banks tuner. Disconnect BOTH batteries from EACH OTHER AND the truck. Let the truck set for 30 minutes and turn and hold the key to the START position for a few seconds to help drain any residual power.
Reconnect everything and then it should trigger the system to reset. If you have a scanner that reads the CCM then that helps know whats going on.

We install emergency and critical power systems, we have all sorts of basic and very high end programmable logic controllers and smart grid crap. It all has logic behind it (good or bad) randomness is not a good trait of a engineered system.

What is the magic behind these things and why such mystery on how to get them to run?

These post come up every so often it seems.

Have any kids of the late 80's tried.....
Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start. Maybe that will give your truck 30 extra lives like in Contra.

Edit..... here are some links that had some good info. Guess I answered most of my own questions above.

Nevada is much better than Comifornia, but don't come to any Clark County territory. We have yearly smog checks, and that involves testing while on a dyno.

Well, Tennessee’s been great to me and as long as you don’t live in Nashville/Metro Davidson County or a couple of surrounding counties you won’t have to worry about emissions testing. No income tax, either.

Can't wait to sit in line to have sniff-testers get confused with this new truck. Such a waste of time and money to have an IM program here in Davidson county. I can throw a rock at Cheatham county, but couldn't find a decent place when were on the market. Half the taxes there too.
