I just bought a 2017 Ram 3500 Cummins with 40K miles. It has a CCV delete on it by evil energy. I noticed an strong smell of oil when I'm idling or driving slowly. I suspect its the CCV delete, anyone else have that experience?

Just like the older ones. With my 2003, some oils smelled worse and stronger than others. Rotella was the worst. Amsoil was barely noticable. I have no idea if Rotella still stinks because mine is not vented to the atmosphere.

What is the advantage to the CCV delete other than not having to replace the filter ever again?

Im not sure what the advantage is, the previous owner did it. I assume its to keep oil out of the compressor and intercooler. IWhen I changed the turbo on my 3rd gen the intake tubes and intercooler were coated with oil. But I think I rather have a dirty intercooler than smell this for 200K miles.

What 3 Gen? My 5.9 is vented to the atmosphere from factory.

If that's the case, im deleting the delete.

Yes, that would solve the problem. Alternatively there is a long thread somewhere about sealing up the firewall where the HVAC takes in fresh air. One scupper flapper was missing on the truck used in the thread. Lots of high temp HVAC tape used.

3rd gen had 6.7 engines too and I don't believe those had road tubes. Nor California emissions 5.9??

Earl

Even the cali one had it open, the ISB 325 was 50 state certified, as first one ever.
6.7 is a whole different story, new engine, new emissions certification.
