Firewood & Log Handling

Was wondering if anyone had experience with something like this, mainly the boom and hydraulics with pony motor, if it could be mounted on a road worthy trailer. I have access to lots of downed firewood from power company tree cutting crews before OR after it had downed power lines. loading it is my responsibility after they cut it and leave it on side of the road.

Metavic makes what you’re looking for, but they ain’t cheap. What you need to look at are the specs for lift capacity. That will give you a little insight as to how rugged the loader is. The problem is, log loaders are built as light as possible so as to maximize their lifting capacity. They do break booms and grapples. Try to spec a loader with at least 50% more lift than your maximum pick. The loader on my forwarder is about 5,000lbs at 10ft reach. I’ve broken both booms in 10,000hrs of Service.

Cute little thing. Sure looks like it'd work on the proper size/weight wood. Some of last summers wood collected for winter of '20.

I've had good luck catching the cutting crew working and they've always loaded me out. I always tip the loader a twenty. Cheap easy oak firewood.

They’re a decent outfit. Not quite the same since Bill Bailey died and his son took over. Another good source is Maddens onlne. A little more for the logging contractor but good folks. You can also try Comstock logging supply.

Thanks for the heads up on stores. Having breakfast then going out for a Crisp 25 degree BUT SUNNY!! start to a day of wood cutting to work out all the kinks from the ride home from Vegas.

Im pretty fortunate that a young man I know works for the local power company crew that cuts down trees that have potential of knocking out power OR have fallen and cut the power. He calls me & tells me where they'er working and I go get them. They'er nowhere as big as the ones in your picture but then again I can't handle that size wood to load, they can't load it on trailers. We can however BUY logs as big as that and have them delivered but that means that I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM

I still pay for his gift of wood I took over 2 cords and asked him if he'd help me burn it to make, room for the ones that I need to split so far I'm working on hitting the 30 cord mark for wood storage that would last me 5 or 6 years of home heating depending on temp's. Im fixing to do some building of a shop & I'm not going to have time to cut wood.

Thats No so farfetched as one mite think!!

I like working in the woods clearing the under growth and dead trees it helps everything even the Deer Population, kind of nice going hunting right outside the back door nothing Huge but great times for the grandsons and myself.

I dont have a wood stove in the normal sense mine sits 125 feet away from the house and transfers heat through a water to air heat exchanger installed in the duct work within the house and uses the fan to push the heat throughout the house MUCH MORE EVEN HEAT in comparison to a fireplace or indoor wood burning stove.

Don't judge me!!!!!! When I moved away from home in the early 90's I told myselft I'd never cut wood for home heating ever again. So far, I've been able to live up to that promise. The only exception I've made is for the fire pit in the yard. Killing spruce trees is fun once a year. Gives me a chance to make noise with the big Husqvarna.
