So...
The truck I just bought was converted from an automatic to a manual without me knowing ahead of time.
Evidence:
Tow/haul button
Toggle switch on the dash with constant hot that turns on the reverse lights.
A bundle of plugs in a plastic bag next to the transmission.
It seems noticeably faster than my ‘14 that was a factory manual.

So, how monumental of a task was this?
How can I get the reverse lights to turn on when I put the shifter in reverse?
What problems might I be in for, not including the fact that the transmission is seeing higher power levels than anticipated?
By the way, the synchros in 1st through 4th are either shot or on the way there as well as reverse...

What does it have for programming?
Not sure. There is a 4 position selector knob that’s not connected to anything, so I assume it had a tuner previously. The previous owner traded this truck on a one year newer mega cab, so I imagine he took the tuner with him.

Didn't you look at it and drive it before you bought it..... ask questions?
Most definitely. I saw the tow/haul button and questioned its existence. Having had a 14 previously, I thought it might have been a new thing for possibly the exhaust brake, but was still curious. It didn’t take much conversation with the salesman to realize he wasn’t going to be much help on the details of the truck. I’ll bet they didn’t even know it wasn’t factory.
As for the reverse light switch, maybe he was using them as work lights with the truck idling. The bulbs have been swapped to LED, so they’re fairly bright.
I don’t remember if I saw the bundle of plugs under the truck or not.
The possibility of it being a conversion never crossed my mind. I figured the computer work alone would be a nightmare to get it running.

I assume it had the emissions stuff intact?

It could have been flashed to a manual trans, but I would verify they. It it hasn’t you’re looking at some potential ECM issues.

You can run the VIN and get the window sticker to see what trans it really had from the factory.

All emissions are in tact.
I’ll run down to the dealer tomorrow and try that.

Here this should be easier to read.
