Backing my 2019 3500 into a parking spot today and bumped a sign post at (I"M NOT KIDDING) a mile and a half an hour and barely kissed it. Well, It bent my rear bumper like a taco and then it kissed the stupid duck-bill flared tailgate lip. Give me a break FCA, You call this "Heavy Duty"? I don't care if my truck is near 9k pounds... Why skimp on a bumper? I remember my 1966 Pontiac GTO had 1/4" bumpers on it. What's this 20ga garbage you use for "bumpers" FCA? I have a brand new FabFours" rear bumper that I have yet to install (going to install it now this Saturday) which I should have already done..... Which would have in turn... Not caused me to dent my tailgate lip. I now have ordered the Geno's Garage Lip Protector that will hide the dented lip... The OEM bumper is now going in the trash and not on Craigslist as I had planned. Will post pics of the FabFours that's going on tomorrow.

Any new RAM owner please take note.... OEM bumpers are not for protection in any means WHAT SO EVER, They are purely decorative. The word "Heavy Duty" only applies to the drivetrain these days.

Back by feel hasn't worked on bumpers for a lot of years... no such thing as HD bumpers. Every pickup I've owned I've upgraded to Ranchhand type steel pipe bumpers.

Feel your pain.

Cheers, Ron

I did a similar thing with a concrete bollard when my 04 was a week old. Dent is still there  but the tailgate thing REALLY hurts. Sorry man.

Thinking back, I used to order my Ferds with bumper delete, so I could hang a decent step bumper on the back.

Been there done that on 2012 F250 same kind of thing. Bumpers are not made the way they used to be

Well if its any consolation , I bumped against the front of a guardrail on a building years ago with my 1974 Dodge truck ,and did the same thing as the OP, and I mean just barely bumped up against it . Been that way since 1974 it appears .

They are strictly decoration! What happen to sensors mine wood make all sort of noise, oh I feel your pain ding tail gate, eck!

Woke up this morning hoping I imagined my mistake... Nope. Thank you all for the kind words during this difficult time. JPM.... Thanks for the offer. Parking sensors were on but was rocking out to Lynyrd Skynyrd. 100% user error but C'mon... a love tap shouldn't destroy a bumper.

Might be able to find a new take off, not in that color but might save a few bucks.

I have my tailgate and bumper, not going to help your cause at all its a base Tradesman.

But an RV person might have swapped theirs for towing.

Come on, take that sucker off, beat it our with a ball pin hammer and gets some rattle can. You have to admit the truck weighs close to 8K Lbs. Sorry, there hasn't been a bumper that can take that hit since the 70s.

My wifes would have the same hit as you, but had collision avoidance on...it won't let me hit it. My 5500, I shake the trees..

Cheers, Ron

If you read my post, My 74 dodge pickup took less then that to wrinkle the bumper ;)

You beat my to it, I got a 78 LRE truck, and they would bend looking at them wrong.

I like my wifes collision avoidance... guy driving 40ish in Home Depot parking lot... it sees sideways from rear and front... its saved me a lot of $$ and wife grief.

Cheers, Ron
