Dang, I survive the VP44 and killer dowel pin (lasted almost 200K with no issues before the truck was destroyed by a semi), the 53 Block debacle (Did not have one), snagged by the early lift pump failure but fixed with an AirDog pump Filter Mod, victim of the lost 5th gear cured by a rebuilt transmission from Standard Gear and Transmission in TX, cracked exhaust manifold replaced by a three piece manifold, and a late bad head gasket/cracked head caused by an early over heating some 120K miles back. Now after 20 years I thought it was safe to try again and now the potential horror stories are out on the new Cummins. One would think that after all these year they would get it right. loosing faith but prying for a miracle.

There are a lot more parts to go wrong on these new trucks (as compared to your 99). Seems like the Turbo Actuator goes out more regularly on these trucks than fuel pumps?

I carry extra radiator hoses, serpentine belt, fluids, and an extra hydraulic clutch assembly with me on long trips. I carried an extra water pump with me for awhile until the dealer got the parts in for the recall.

I lost a computer.... Not sure if it was an ECM or PCM a couple years ago that was paid for by extended warranty. Now, I just keep a cushion in my bank account, because something is likely to go wrong. My wife said yesterday, that "The truck has been about the best investment that we made". Actually, the extended warranty was about the best investment that I made.

I told my wife that the parts and labor on these complicated diesels is significantly more than the little 4 banger gassers that we are used to. But if I can get 300,000+ miles out of it without too many high repair costs (things like replacing the fuel system or exhaust system), it will more than pay for itself.

Who did you use for the extended warranty? Been looking at those as well. Some people say they are just a scam some say it is a good investment. On the fence on that one.

I remember way back when people were hyping gold something warranty. I finally bought into the hype that was on TDR and sent them the money, something like $1500 or better, can't really remember the details. About a Month later they claimed bankruptcy and closed the doors with the money. The best warranty is me after that. These new trucks may be problematic enough to warrant the factory extended tho.

I had been burned in the 90's by buying an extended warranty from a supposed car warranty company (to the tune of $1000). They said "everything mechanical and everything electrical" ( and they did specifically mention some parts). But when my speedometer/odometer broke. They wouldn't fix it. They said the speedometer cable wasn't specifically mentioned, so it wasn't covered. I, currently, have Mopar MVP max care. The only one I trust. But they are getting more expensive, so i am not going with any warranty from here on out. I think the Mopar warranty has had to replace alot of cheaply sourced parts and is losing money. So, they've raised their prices.

I've had genuine MaxCare warranties on all my CTD's. Currently on my 19' I have MaxCare 8/125 that has a $200 deductible, I paid $2850 for it last November.

Question:
I bought my truck in January 2019 and was not offered the factory extended warranty but instead offered an independent extended warranty through the dealership. Can I go back and get the factory extended warranty? I think they charged me $2500 or so .......
