Anyone happen to have their Aisin TCM flashed with new software under TSB 21-043-19? It's suppose to improve 2-3 and 3-4 shifts. TSB is dated 11-28-2019 and covers 2018 3500 Aisin.

Thanks,
Earl

I just looked, and mine had 21-041-19 done a while ago. It made it a bit easier to drive around my 2-1 slip/slam downshift, but didn't eliminate it. But, it now seems to have a really terrible 2-3 upshift shudder when pulling our toy hauler. When I say shudder I mean it shakes the whole truck like it will shake you out of the seat. I will look into the 21-043-19. Is you Aisin misbehaving, too?

On Edit:
I just dug it up, and it appears to be for 2018. Mine is 2019.

The TSB I posted only covers 2018 year. Yes mine does some weird stuff at times and works beautiful others. 1-2 shutter almost all the time. Can shake the truck when towing 12k. 3-4 shift can be harsh or excessive slipping or normal. 50/50 split on if it's a adaptive trans or not. So I may try a quick learn, which will reset adaptive leaning. AlfaOBD is suppose to be able to do a quick learn.

Was the 2017 the last good HO RAM? That is a limited number of years: 2015-2017. I do wish my 2015 had the front park sense. I did however install a camera in the front grill with a 4.3" display, that looks down at the front bumper.

My 2018 is the same as previous years. You're thinking of 2019?

I know the 2019 is a big departure from the earlier ones, however the Aisin shifting issues seems to have started with the 2018's.

I've seen flash TSB's for earlier Aisins for shifting issues. Believe 2016 and earlier? I was looking for 2018 coverage so I didn't mental note all the details.

So why did they need this TSB? And maybe you are right the 2019's are doing to slam shifts.

It is possible I got the TSB about a year ago without knowing it. My TCU failed and had to be replaced so it is possible I already have updated programming.

Ever before the failure I wasn't having shifting issue though.

I seem to recall you talking about short shift issues at elevation with your AISIN, or was that someone else?

I get a rare shuttle shift when towing and the short shift issue sometimes around 65, but otherwise no complaints on how my trans shifts.

Going in to the dealer Friday for this transmission flash. Guess I will be the guinea pig.

Also informed them of my random 4wd shift in process popping up on the cluster when the shifter wasn't touched. Hopefully the CAD motor isn't actually shifting when it does it.

AIso questioned them about bed alignment. My bed doesn't sit inline of the cab or centered with the rear bumper. Nor are my hitch puck holes in the floor centered. Hopefully it's just loosen the mounting bolts and realigning it.

Thanks for finding this! Yes, my 2018 slams gear changes now and then and could use improvement to match other 1 ton automatic transmission consistency on the market. To bad it doesn't address the "Where is First?" tire chirping 2-1 long delay in neutral while shifting.

I don't believe I've experienced 2-1 issue. Definitely got 1-2 shutter most of the time. Hopeful the flash addresses it but not listed in the TSB. Time will tell. I'm sure the pandemic has software updates way behind.

2-1 shows up on a grade where the truck is slowing down quickly. It also shows up at a near stop like when you catch a light going green. It holds 2nd too long IMO and then can't figure out the shift fast enough and slams it. It's better off lugging 2nd at times. Not the end of the world, but, needs some refinement.

There's also a TSB to replace the torque converter on the ever increasing # of misbehaving Aisins but I'm not sure what years it covers. It was posted here in the last month I'd guess. I'll see if I can find it.

No the issue is at 60 mph at 5500 to 6000 ft the boost sticks at 10 PSI, and speed falls off until it down shifts. I do not believe it is a tanny problem. An early group of TSB solved the gear hunting while towing.

Gotcha. I haven’t experienced that issue.

I still have the gear hunting and so does dads 17. It only seems to do it at elevation thou, but even then it’s not constant. It was really bad coming home from Yellowstone last Labor Day but didn’t experience it at all going there on the same roads.

I swear my truck does OTA updates sometimes. Things will all of a sudden be working different.
