We just bought a new to us 2017 3500 DRW. We are upgrading from a 2006 2500. I know that the 3rd gen common rails had CP3 failures and I ran a airdog on it and never had a issue. Are CP3 failures less common on this engine? I tired to research and mainly found the turbo failure issues. I dont mind putting another airdog on but if its not worth the time then ill pass on it. Thank you

CP3 is a very reliable pump. They usually didn't fail on 3rd gens until they had a lot of miles on them. The problem on 3rd gens was there wasn't enough filtering for the injectors and then the injectors would fail. You were mostly addressing the poor filters with the airdog.

Unlike the 3rd gen were you only had a single engine mounted filter, these trucks have a filter back by the tank a the one on the engine. The one on the engine is a better micron rating than the 3rd gen had. These 4th gen have good filtering so no real advantage to using a Airdog or FASS on a stock motor.

Thank you, That was the answer I was looking for!

CP3 failures weren't common on 3rd gens, nor are they common on 4th gen.

Depending on when you bought your AD and what filters it had there was a good chance it had worse filtration than stock...

Just like on a 3rd gen (it was easier and cheaper to get better filtration than an AD/FASS) an AD isn't worth it unless you need more flow than the stock pump provides... you can't beat the stock filtration on a 4th gen, especially a 13+.
