Yep I agree with both of you. Long story short the service writer told me it was safe to drive. He had the starter shimmed with washers. Crank end play was check and was within tolerance (rear thrust bearing). He told me I could drive it home to my dealer but not to tow with it. It was a stressful drive home yesterday. As of last Thursday I do have a case worker assigned to this problem.

After the dealership had my truck all week the starter finally made it after 3:45 Friday afternoon. Once installed come to find out that it is not the problem. Flex plate is still hitting the starter....

ETA: What is the sad part this could have been known much earlier in the week. This repair called for a reman starter not a new one. Last Monday there were 3 new ones in Cleveland's distribution point.

I don't know why they waited for a remanufactured part, unless not available means anywhere on the North American continent.
This statement is found in my Mopar Max Care policy.

Authorized repairs will be made using remanufactured parts. If remanufactured parts are not available, the Dealer will use new parts.

I'll have to find a copy of the Basic FCA US LLC's Limited Warranty to see if it contains the same verbiage.
Found it!

You pay nothing for these repairs. These warranty repairs or adjustments — including all parts and labor connected with them — will be made by an authorized dealer at no charge, using new or remanufactured parts.

You would think if a reman part wasn't in the system they would put a new one on it to get the customer on the road again.
Exactly! I would have commented that fact and the given references to the advisor. Sometimes it is not up to the dealer but FCA. At least they would have given a "valid" reason if they couldn't acquire the new part vs. reman.

The first thing they could have done is the correct diagnosis. Then the starter issue would not have happened. The flywheel/flex plate and starter do not magically collide with each other.
Let alone the statement it is in tolerance...but don't tow? I sniff a hot box of old smelly smelt somewhere there...

I feel better that it I'll be taking it to my dealership in the morning where I bought it. The dealer in Cumberland diesel mechanic will be on vacation this week. I do have a case number and a case worker for this problem as of last Thursday late afternoon.

Update: I got may truck up to my dealer this morning around 20 minutes before Service was open. They got me right in around 8 and on the lift not muck longer after that (I didn't have an appointment). So far it was found to have a cracked bell housing. So before tear down a bell housing, flex plate, bolts for the flex plate and torque converter has been ordered an should be there in the morning. And wait there's more I'm now driving a Dodge Mini Van that was rented for me, LOL.

The truck is up and running, will pick it up in the morning. First of all I have a thread on here on Centramatics. I had my tires Road Force balance and still had a slight vibration. I bought the Centramatics and still had the vibration starting around 68MPH. I notice while bringing the truck back from Cumberland MD I no longer had the vibration.

Case in point it was found what they believe that the torque converter was never properly installed at the factory. It was never seated. This bent the flex plate that coursed it to rub inside the adapter (bell housing).

Flex plate and adapter (bell housing). cracks in the adapter 4 and 8 o'cloick.

Inside adapter.

The evil smiley face that the heat caused back side of flex plate. They checked the end play on the crank and all was good.

That is exactly what happened to the one I was referencing. I'll have to look for the photos because I think I took a couple when the technician showed it to me.
